New Jerusalem Seen in Ephesians, 21

Ephesians 6:1-9 has more words about our Christian living in various relationships in this age. As in the prior two chapters, these exhortations are to keep us away from living apart from Christ in our natural life, and will not be necessary in New Jerusalem.

The next section of Ephesians 6 is about spiritual warfare. This is important in this age but the warfare will be concluded and all the negatives cast into the lake of fire in Revelation 19–20. Therefore there is no of warfare in Revelation 21–22.New Jerusalem

Ephesians 6:17-18 is tied to the washing of the water in the word in 5:26. “Receive…the sword of the Spirit, which* Spirit is the word of God, by means of all prayer and petition, praying at every time in spirit.” The Lord’s washing requires our receiving, our cooperation.

The Bible is the constant word (λογος in Greek) of God whereas the spoken word (ρημα in Greek) in Ephesians 5 and 6 is the Spirit. We need both! By prayer and petition with the words of the Bible we receive the living, washing word applied to us at that moment. For this, I recommend www.livingstream.com/en/booklets/18007001-pray-reading-the-word.html.

In New Jerusalem we will have the Lord’s constant presence with His living speaking.

    * Greek grammar makes it clear that which refers to Spirit, not to sword.
