Bimpe Adekola pressed the throttle very hard as she moved away from the road scene that had caused a serious traffick jam. She and other vehicle drivers were excited to move away from the scene to breathe a fresh air. As she tried to turn around the sharp bend on the junction that leads to her home street with the same high speed, she suddenly took away some pressure from the throttle pedal. [Oh common], she said to herself. [You don’t do that. Overspending at this stage can cause some havock to the precious seed Inside me.] Then she suddenly stopped her thought and shook her head.

“Mrs. Adekola,” The Doctor had said to her. “Everything will be okay. This one will come out fine.”

“Hmmm” She had breathed down heavily. “I hope so Doctor. I hope so. I pray nothing happens to this.”

“Nothing will happen to your baby this time.”

“Doctor,” She had said sharply looking straight into the eyes of the Doctor. “You said that to me the last time in this office. In fact, you have said that to me for about five times now since I got married over two years ago.”

The Doctor had smiled and stood up from his seat. “Nothing will happen to this Mrs. Adekola. Nothing will happen to your baby.”

“I’m so sorry Doctor,” She said regretfully. “I shouted at you. I’m so sorry. It’s just that I’m losing all hopes already. I’m getting tired of always losing my pregnancy.”

“I understand,'” The Doctor had said smiling again. “You won’t lose this one. I can assure you of that.”

Then the sight of the final road that led to the street where her house was woke her up from her reverie. She drove down gently through the street as if to prevent neighbors from seeing the baby inside her womb.

“I just hope so..] She said to herself. [I want to take you for you word Doctor Davies.] She pressed the car brake right in front of her house.

“Ken,” Matt charged at Ken after he rushed into his office without knocking the door. “What’s going on, I’ve been calling your number. ”

Ken, who had been placing his head on his table for over thirty minutes raised his head from his table and pointed his hand to the chair in front of his table signalling to his friend who works in another department of the same company with him, to have his seat.

“What’s wrong Ken, you’re not picking your calls.” Matt said again after he took his seat.

“I’m very sorry Matt,” Ken finally found his voice. “I just don’t feel like talking to anyone.”

    “Including me. What’s going on?”

“My wife just called me now.”

“And what’s the problem with that?”

“Hmmm.” Ken breathed down deeply. “She’s pregnant again.”

    “Hey! That’s good news Ken.”

“Good news. You said that’s good news.”

    “Yes, it is.”

“And what’s good about a pregnancy that will not produce a child!” Ken shouted angrily at his friend.

“Oh! Now, I understand.” Matt rose from his seat and walked towards his friend, placed his right hand on his shoulder. “Ken, don’t allow that ungodly thought. This one will be different.”

Ken turned and looked directly into his friend’s eyes. “If I can remember, you’ve said that to me on about five occasion now.”

“This one will be different Ken,” Matt said smiling and looking at the other side of the office as if trying to forget those number of times he had said that to his friend. “This one will be different Ken.” He finally forced the words out of his mouth again.

“Lira, you can’t deny me what is my right.”

“No, it’s not your right. I reject you.”

“It’s my right. That’s what your name implies. Lira, in our world means, ‘my right and my property. I own you.”

“No, you don’t own me. I’m not your property anymore. I belong to another world now.”

“You can’t belong to another world. You belong to our world. You’re my property. I own you.”

“What do you want from me? Leave me alone.”

“I want that pregnancy. Our covenant forbids you having a child here on the earth. You can’t have that child.”

“No. No. No. Leave my child alone. I belong to Jesus now.”

“No. No. No. Leave me alone. I belong to Jesus now. Jesus. Jesus. Jesus.” Bimpe shouted from her sleep sweating profusely and shaking as if she had been thrown into the lions’s den. Her shout from the dream woke her husband up front his sleep and he switched on the bedside light to look at his trembling and shaking wife beside him. Bimpe, now fully awake, reached out to touch her right thigh and noticed it’s already stained with blood.

“Oh! ” She screamed. “Not again. Now again. Jesus, not again. ” She began to cry profusely.

“Not again. Oh, not again Lord. Enough is enough.”

Her husband held her closely to himself and held on firmly onto her head with his two hands and began to shout out deep prayers unto heaven as if he was ready to rend down every other pillar that holds the clouds of heaven in position. As he prayed, his skin’s sweat glands began to produce hot water out of his body in that cold night.

Nine months after that fateful night, Mr. and Mrs. Adekola were all smiles as they celebrated the naming ceremony of their long awaited first child.
