Only One Life is for New Jerusalem
New Jerusalem is a city in resurrection and all who are in that city will be fully resurrected. Today all the believers in Jesus Christ have three lives—spiritual, psychological, and physical. But only the spiritual life, Christ Himself as our life, matches the nature of New Jerusalem. What happens to the other two?
In Matthew 16, as well as in Matthew 10 and in Mark, Luke, and John, the Lord Jesus instructs us to deny our soul-life, our psychological life. Our soul was created by God but our soul-life originated from the fall of man in Genesis 3. We deny our soul-life so that we may take Christ as our life.
Our created soul is absolutely necessary for Him to express His thoughts and feelings through us. But our soul-life is independent from Him. When Christ lives in us, He spreads from our human spirit, which was born again of the Spirit (John 3:6), into our soul to renew us, to bring our living into that of the new man which He created on the cross.
We also have a physical life, the source of lusts and the cause for many people to eat in unhealthy ways. When we live Christ we do not live in the flesh but in the spirit (Rom. 8:4, 9); then the Spirit in our spirit can “give life to your mortal bodies” (Rom 8:11).
At the end of this age we will experience the transfiguration of our mortal bodies. At that time the zoe life will saturate our bodies, completing our salvation from the flesh and constituting our whole being with zoe life for New Jerusalem.
