Our Position and Condition in Christ

Second Corinthians 5:17 declares that our position, our status in Christ Jesus is “a new creation.” Second Corinthians 4:16 describes our inner condition: “though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.”

New JerusalemOutwardly, humanly, physically we are old and decaying but inwardly, spiritually we are being renewed. Our transfer to the position of the new creation is an immediate response to our believing in Christ Jesus. But our renewing is a lengthy process “day by day” which brings us completely unto the newness of New Jerusalem.

Likewise, according to Colossians 3:10 we “have put on the new man.” Yet, this new man “is being renewed unto full knowledge according to the image of Him [Christ] who created him.” Here again we have a change of position followed by a gradual reworking of our condition.

The outcome of this being renewed is that Christ becomes all in us; our tastes, our attitudes, our behavior, our responses to others, our expression in our daily living. This is “Christ magnified in my body, whether through life or through death” (Phil. 1:20). This magnification is our full growth now and our eternal delight in New Jerusalem.
