Pay the Price for the Wedding Feast
Revelation 19:7 declares, “Let us rejoice and exult, and let us give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” Eternally the Lamb’s wife is New Jerusalem.
The parable in Matthew 25:1-13 shows that we need to pay a price to enter the wedding feast. The price is for gaining oil, a symbol of the Spirit; we need to be filled with the Spirit for this wedding feast. Some had the filling (25:4) and others were lacking (25:8-9).
Ephesians 5:18 – “be filled in spirit.”
Several portions in the New Testament present aspects of paying the price. In Matthew 16:24-26 the Lord Jesus told the disciples of their (and our) need to deny the self and lose our soul-life. This is our fallen, natural life, which cannot satisfy God’s intention.
The Lord’s firm words about this are also in Mark 8:34-37, Luke 9:23-25, 14:26, 17:33, and John 12:25. Later Revelation 12:11 says that the overcomers “loved not their soul-life even unto death.”
To deny our self life is to have our mind on the spirit, as in Romans 8:6, so that by the Spirit within us we can “be transformed by the renewing of the mind.” This is likewise to live not by ourselves apart from Christ but to let Christ be our daily living, as in Galatians 2:20.
Let us live a self-denying life to gain the Spirit as the oil to fill our vessels today to be ready for New Jerusalem.
