Reconnecting intimacy with God
“Oh God, you are my God; early I will seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land without water.” Psalm 63:1
Is there any moment in your life that one day you wake up and realize that your intimacy with God was no longer there?
Just like in any other relationship, there would come a time when our closeness and excitement of being with God could fade once we did not take care of it.
There could be a lot of factors why we lose Christ as we face our everyday struggles. It could be by neglecting the Bible because of our priorities at home or work.
We could also lose Christ by continuing to sin despite recognizing its foolishness.
We must know why our intimacy with God faded so we can reconnect our closeness to Him.
The verse in Psalm 63:1 says we must seek Him so He can be found.
The truth is God never left our side, His intimacy for us never changes, and it was on our part that that closeness fades.
A famous and excellent preacher, Charles Spurgeon, asked, “How is it that you did not watch Him every moment for fear of losing sight of Him?”
When we love someone dearly, we will never let go of him, no matter what happens. There is no difference in loving God. When we love Him so much, it would be difficult and painful to let go, especially when we need Him the most.
Without Him, we are like sheep without their shepherd, like a tree without water at its roots.
Thus, with our whole hearts, we must seek Him, and we will find Him. God is not cruel and will not forgive us for our shortcomings. He is so gracious and merciful that He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us and reconnect with us.
No matter your reasons why you lose your intimacy with God, He would understand and is willing to embrace you and forgive you.
Our relationship with God is like our relationship with our spouse. The more you pursue it daily, the more your intimacy with each other grows deeper and stronger.
When we seek God, we must destroy the walls of pride that hinder our connection to Him. God dislikes those who are filled with pride, but He favors those who are humble.
Seeking Him takes genuine humility so we can find Him. We must be humble enough to admit our transgressions and to accept His discipline wholeheartedly.
We must take our relationship with God seriously to commit ourselves to searching Him carefully. Then, we would discover Him and experience undefined joy in His presence.
Identify the things that hinder you from reconnecting with Him so you know how to avoid them.
Remember that true gladness does not come from our earthly treasures or the achievements we could have. Since, just like the wisest King, King Solomon said, everything is meaningless without God. He is supposed to be our top priority.
So when you feel like you are losing that intimacy you have with Him, seek Him earnestly, then He is there waiting.
