Renewing unto New Jerusalem (1)
New Jerusalem is the center of the new heaven and new earth. Man was created by God for this but man was misled and captured by Satan and became the old man of sin and death. Christ has redeemed us and the Spirit has given us a new birth (John 3:6) but we still have much of the fallen, old man in our being.
If you have believed into the Lord Jesus Christ, you have a new life, the eternal life. But as a Christian there are times when you are upset or impatient or unwilling to forgive or anxious or proud. These and many other emotions, thoughts, or behaviors show that we still have the fallen nature operating in us and that we are not yet fully ready for New Jerusalem.
Although we have the Spirit with our spirit (Rom. 8:16), we still surely need the Spirit’s renewing of our soul, starting with our mind. Romans 12:2 directs us to “be transformed by the renewing of the mind.” The goal of this renewing is “that you may prove what the will of God is.”
This renewing is also stated in Ephesians 4:23, “be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” The Spirit mingled with our spirit needs to spread into our mind to renew it. This is part of our preparation for New Jerusalem on the new earth.
