Serenity Self-Care

The Serenity Saturday theme this week for self-care isREST. Did you know you can rest in many different ways? Most of us think taking a nap is rest, true enough, but our body requires various types of rest. When we give our body a chance to rest and recharge, we feel better and have a more positive outlook. God created us as complex human beings with more than just physical bodies.

To fully rest mind, body and soul, you need to vary your rest routines. Sometimes a nap is what you need. Other times sleep doesn’t bring the rest your mind and spirit crave. Try a few of these rest tips this week to find the rest you need!

  • Time away. This doesn’t have to be a “vacation” just a break from your usual responsibilities for a day, hour, some period of time.
  • Take a break from “helping”. Give yourself a break from helping others for the day.
  • Connect with nature and art. Nothing feeds the soul and spirit like connecting with nature via a walk or time in your yard. Art in any form speaks to and uplifts our spirits.
  • Alone time at home. Carve out some time to yourself to sit quietly, read, listen to music, whatever you enjoy doing.
  • Stillness in God’s Word. Sitting quietly with the Lord, meditating on a favorite promise or just decompressing from your week.

Wrong email address

A couple was going on vacation, but the wife was on a business trip so the husband went to the destination first where his wife would meet him the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email.

Unfortunately, when typing her address, he incorrectly typed a letter and his email was directed instead to an elderly preacher’s wife whose husband passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint.

At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this email on the screen:

Dearest Wife,
Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow. P.S. Sure is hot down here.

helicopter ride

Walter took his wife Ethel to the state fair every year, and every time he would say to her, “Ethel, you know that I’d love to go for a ride in that helicopter.” But Ethel would always reply, “I know that Walter, but that helicopter ride is 50 dollars and 50 dollars is 50 dollars.”

Finally, they went to the fair, and Walter said to Ethel, “Ethel, you know I’m 87 years old now. If I don’t ride that helicopter this year, I may never get another chance.” Once again Ethel replied, “Walter, you know that helicopter is 50 dollars and 50 dollars is 50 dollars.”

This time the helicopter pilot overheard the couple’s conversation and said, “Listen folks, I’ll make a deal with you. I’ll take both of you for a ride; if you can both stay quiet for the entire ride and not say a word I won’t charge you! But if you say just one word, it’s 50 dollars.”

Walter and Ethel agreed and up they went in the helicopter. The pilot performed all kinds of fancy moves and tricks, but not a word was said by either Walter or Ethel.

The pilot did his death-defying tricks over and over again, but still there wasn’t so much as one word said.

When they finally landed, the pilot turned to Walter and said, “Wow! I’ve got to hand it to you. I did everything I could to get you to scream or shout out, but you didn’t. I’m really impressed!”

Walter replied, “Well to be honest I almost said something when Ethel fell out but, you know, 50 dollars is 50 dollars!”

Join Me in a Laughter Challenge

My God is not a sad, stern God sitting in heaven scowling at the foolishness of laughter. He is a happy God, his happiness is rooted in his unchangeable, unshakable, glorious nature! One look at the wonder of creation, and there is no doubt God has a sense of humor! His very nature is revealed in all of creation. We see His beauty, majesty and power in all things; the heavens declare the glory of God. Consider the silliness of monkeys, the playfulness of dolphins or the mischievousness of chipmunks. Scientists have even recorded certain species like the New Zealand Kea that actually “laugh”.

Joy brings healing to the heart. Join my laughter challenge today!

Serenity Songs

My Friend, can I remind you on this Serenity Saturday, You Are Loved. You Are Enough. You Are Valuable because you were created in the Image of God. Not only that, but HE gave His own life for YOU. To rescue you, and ensure that you would be with Him forever! Worship with me today and reject the lies of the enemy. You Are Who GOD Says you are, nothing can ever change that.

“And having chosen you, he called you to come to him. After having called you, he gave you right standing with himself. And having given you right standing, he gave you his glory. What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?  Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?  Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.  Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.” Romans 8:30-34
