Sitting on the Fence

Have you ever been faced with a difficult decision?  A decision where you knew that you could pick only one
of the choices available to you, and that either way, the choice you made would
greatly affect your life?  These kind of decisions require a lot of
thought and consideration.

We must choose between serving God and serving the
pleasures of this world.  This can be a very tough decision as the world
offers many pleasures that satisfy the desires of our flesh.  We can only
choose one of these, and depending on which we choose, we will gain eternal
life or eternal death.  We are told in Matthew
6:24a that,
No one can serve two masters.
Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the
one and despise the other…

Today there are many people out there who are sitting on
the fence trying to play both sides.  They profess to be Christians and go
through the basic motions of Christianity, but they live their lives chasing
and enjoying the sinful pleasures of this world.  Many of these people
have been deceived into believing that because they claim to be a Christian,
and they wear the label as one, that they are automatically saved from eternal
death.  Sadly this is not the case, God’s
Word tells us that as true Christians we are to, “…put off your old self, which is being corrupted
by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to
put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

(Ephesians 4:22-24)

As professing Christians, we need to finally make the
decision to passionately serve Christ, and realize that in choosing Christ we
are called to be like Him in every way.  We must do more than just wear
the title of Christian, we must live the Christian lifestyle according to God’s
Word.  We need to let our actions speak louder than our words.

He who does what is sinful is
of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason
the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of
God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on
sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children
of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what
is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.”
(1 John 3:8-10)

In Christ there is no indecision.  There is no “if or maybe,” but there is a
definite “Yes” in Him.  He does not sit
on the fence and does not want His people to either.  Look to the Lord to open the door, and give
you insight. Open your heart and mind to receive His truth. Humble yourself
under His hand and never waver in doubt.
