Spending Hump Day Slinging Snappy Slang - The DV Walking Wounded:

While I am familiar with the concept, but never knew the term until recently…it is a laughable, yet accurate term. I adore hybrid words!

According to UrbanDictionary, here’s the official definition of the word: Hobosexual

Many times “hobosexuals” are narcissists, who does or says whatever they need to, in order to have a place to stay/live, avoiding homelessness. But, WHY? Why do they do what they do?

Many of these folks, and they can be either male or female, do this because of one or some of the following:

  • They cannot commit to anyone in a relationship, due to having no empathy or respect for the other party; basically, “settling,” until they find the next-best-thing;
  • They are desperate and have little to no money (and the causes can be numerous), but mainly because they can also not hold a job for long either;
  • They are selfish with money, but will gladly spend yours;
  • They are criminals who constantly move around to keep their location a mystery (BE CAREFUL!)

I believe I was married to such a person, once-upon-a-time. He was content when I was working myself to death and paying the bills. However, since I have been divorced, I have noticed these individuals more as they try to schmooze their way into unsuspecting victims hearts in the “dating scene.” I’m with a great man, so it has been a long time personally, but I still see this unfolding on social media. These predators search for the newly divorced, those fresh out of abuse, because why not? These victims are the statistically desperate and on the rebound. They seek their victims out on social media and in party scenarios. They become “Prince Charming,” who turns out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Please be careful of their sugar-coated lies!

Also, with these individuals out there, it makes me wonder: can the opposite dynamic be true? Meaning, those divorced and abused folks that have nothing, that have survived much — do narcissists prey on them to cause them to BECOME a “hobosexual?” Is this sometimes how they choose their next victims?? I work in social services and see too many people change locations, multiple times per year, because they’re on a small fixed-income and cannot live otherwise. I mean NO ONE wants to be homeless, everyone deserves a safe and clean place to live, but not everyone has the means. #nojudgement

BTW, no, I’m not referring to the Seattle band, but here is a song that was featured in Showtime’s series, Shameless. Their video here:
