Taking Bold Steps for God: Nurturing an Active Spiritual Life

"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses." - 1 Timothy 6:12

Have you ever considered what it means to take bold steps for God truly?

It's a thought that often lingers in the back of our minds as believers. In 1 Timothy 6:12, Paul is not merely suggesting a passive belief but an active engagement in our faith.

This scripture invites us to reflect on the depth of our commitment to God and challenges us to think about how we can actively nurture our spiritual life.

Let's start by understanding what it means to 'fight the good fight of the faith.' It's not about physical combat but a metaphor for our spiritual struggle.

It's about standing firm in our beliefs, even when faced with challenges and temptations. This battle is fought in our everyday choices, how we live our lives, and how we interact with others. It's a call to live out our faith with integrity and purpose.

Now, you might ask, how can we take hold of the eternal life we are called to? Firstly, it involves recognizing the significance of our 'good confession' - the moment we acknowledge our faith in Jesus Christ

This confession is not just a one-time event; it's the beginning of a lifelong journey. Taking hold of eternal life means continually growing in our relationship with God, seeking His will, and aligning our actions with His teachings.

But what does this look like in practical terms? It means praying each day and asking God to guide our actions and decisions. It's about reading and meditating on the Scriptures, allowing God's word to shape our thoughts and behaviors.

It involves being part of a community of believers, encouraging and supporting each other in our faith journey.

Moreover, taking bold steps for God means being His hands and feet. It's looking for opportunities to serve others, showing the love and compassion of Christ in our daily interactions.

It could be as simple as offering a listening ear to someone in need, volunteering in community service, or standing up for justice and righteousness in our society.

Now, nurturing an active spiritual life is not always easy. There will be times of doubt, fear, and failure. But remember, the 'good fight of the faith' is not about achieving perfection. It's about perseverance, learning from our mistakes, and strengthening our faith through these experiences.

So, let's reflect on this: What are the areas in our lives where we can take more bold steps for God?

Is it in our devotion, in our relationships, in our workplaces, or in our communities?

How can we more faithfully 'fight the good fight' and live out the calling to which we have been summoned?

Thus, I encourage you to take a moment today to ponder on 1 Timothy 6:12. Let it be a reminder and a motivation for us to pursue a life that actively reflects our faith in God.

Remember, taking bold steps for God is not about grand gestures but consistent, daily actions demonstrating our commitment to Him.

As we do so, we nurture an active spiritual life that brings us closer to God and shines His light in the world around us.

House of Prayer or Den of Thieves?

On the Monday of Holy Week, Jesus entered the Temple and cleansed it of corruption and commerce. I have studied and preached on the cleansing of the Temple many times in my life, but this year I decided to focus on Luke’s account, rather than Matthew or Mark (or even John’s possibly out-of-order story in his second chapter).“And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers
