The Fear of the LORD
We often hear this famous passage quoted; "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom". However one might miss to ask 'what does it really mean to fear the LORD?' so I can start tapping into wisdom. One may reply to this by quoting James 1:5; "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." True, I agree. But... and it's a big BUT. đ Before one should ask, it is important to know first who this GOD is. Let's complete the saying; "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight [understanding, good judgment]." - Proverbs 9:10 We are first told to know the Holy One as He has revealed Himself in Sacred Scripture. In Isaiah 43, we are charged to know and believe Him and understand who He is. Only in knowing who the GOD of the Bible is shall we truly grasp how to fear Him. And only then should we rightly ask for wisdom and expect Him to grant it generously. I like how the CEV simplified it; "To have understanding, you must know the Holy God." This is why it is so important to read and study the Bible because in it the LORD, in His infinite wisdom, revealed Himself. + jourNics 2023-May-19
