The Generosity of God's Wisdom

    1x
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5 (NIV)

We are all searching for knowledge. For more information, for more increase in what we know. We pursue degrees, certificates, and absorb as much information as we can on certain subjects. Our thirst for knowledge is never quenched.

But, no matter the amount of information stored in our minds, we can never know it all. And where the world’s knowledge ends, the beginning of wisdom is found when we follow in the footsteps of God.

Jesus has given us a beautiful roadmap to live a life of godliness. But will we pay attention?

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

He has ears Jesus says, let him hear. Seek God’s Kingdom and gain godliness and wisdom.

What is wisdom? Wisdom is the well-worn, well lived experiential fabric of our faith. It’s living our days in step with God’s Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us and transform our hearts and minds. It’s leaning in and learning from God and his ways, growing in Christ’s likeness.

Wisdom is earned through our experiences. We live, we learn, we are humbled through our failures and seek to grow in closer relationship to God. Wisdom from God is never in short supply. There is abundance and God is a generous giver. His wisdom never runs out. We simply need to ask Him for wisdom, and He supplies.

Wisdom is not gained by our striving; it is received and a gift from God. Over the years, our experiences build off one another and settle into our hearts, as we reflect on what we’ve learned and received as our faith matures.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5 (NIV)

Instead of fully focusing on our pursuit of knowledge, let’s look to the Lord and His wisdom, for the folly of the Lord is greater than man’s (1 Corinthians 1:25). It is in His beauty and good character where we grow wise and gain a deeper eternal perspective. There is abundance in God’s wisdom, and it is ours if only we ask.

    Questions for Reflection:

In your thoughts, what is the difference between knowledge and wisdom? In what ways can you grow wisdom in knowing God better?

Ask God to give you more wisdom today, whether it’s for a certain situation you’re facing, or for general daily living.
