The Holy City, Full of God’s Bright Glory
Three posts presented Christ formed in us from Galatians 4, filled unto all the fullness of God from Ephesians 3, and Christ is all in the new man from Colossians 3. All of these happenings in our Christian life now are ultimately for New Jerusalem.
Here is a hymn about New Jerusalem. The proclamations in it also apply to lesser extent to the church today. It begins:
—O Lord Jesus, Thy redeemed ones
—–Are Thy Body and Thy Bride;
–As Thy fulness, Thine expression,
––In her Thou art glorified.
Redemption has been applied to all who have believed into Jesus Christ. This makes us members of His one Body and components of His Bride. As such we are His fullness for His expression, His glorification.
The hymn continues:
—Thou, her all in all forever,
——She Thy riches doth declare;
—Thou dost fully saturate her
——And Thy glory with her share.
Colossians 3:11 assures us that Christ is all and in all. Ephesians 1:7; 2:7 speak of the riches of Christ and 3:8 of the unsearchable riches. The shared glory is in Revelation 21:11; New Jerusalem “has the glory of God.”
The chorus of this hymn:
—Lo, the holy city,
——Full of God’s bright glory!
—It is God’s complete expression
——In humanity.
God created man according to His image (Gen. 1:26) and with a human spirit to receive God as life (Zech. 12:1) so that God could be expressed in humanity.
More in the next post.
The words of this hymn are by Witness Lee, the music by Herbert Booth. The full hymn with music is here.
