The Spirit+Our Spirit for New Jerusalem

God created the heavens and the earth and formed “the spirit of man within him” (Zech. 12:1). Our human spirit is very important to God, being presented with the heavens and the earth in Zechariah.

New JerusalemWe have a human spirit (Job 32:8) to match in nature and to cooperate with the Spirit who came forth from the glorification of Jesus all the way to New Jerusalem. This cooperation begins when we first believe in the Lord Jesus so “that which is born of the Spirit is [our] spirit.” Then, “The Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are children of God” (Rom. 8:16).

In these verses the Spirit and our spirit are functioning together. Even more, 1 Corinthians 6:17 says, “he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit.” Our spirit is united with the Spirit of the glorified Jesus. This mingled spirit spreads from our regenerated human spirit to renew our soul. This is “the renewing of the Holy Spirit” in Titus 3:5 which is also our being “renewed in the spirit of your mind” in Ephesians 4:23.

The building of all the believers into the Body of Christ takes place in this mingled spirit. This is Ephesians 2:22, “In whom [the Lord in v. 21] you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in spirit.” This spiritual building eventually will be New Jerusalem.

        Sometimes Healing Takes Time

I like instant. I like brewed coffee in a minute or less. I like microwaved leftovers in 45 seconds or less. I like instant text, instant on-line shopping, and instant movies at the click of a button. I’m not a fan of process but would rather have immediate results. One of my favorite words in the New Testament is “immediately.” “Immediately they received their sight” (Matthew 20:34). Read more...
