Transformed—Clay to Precious Stones
Revelation 21:19 tells us, “The foundations of the wall of the city [New Jerusalem] were adorned with every precious stone.” Then each of the twelve kinds of stones is named.
The foundation of the holy city consists of twelve precious stones…. Precious stones are not created but transformed from things created. All the apostles were created pieces of clay [Rom. 9:21], but they were transformed into precious stones for God’s eternal building. This regeneration and transformation is required for every believer who will be a part of the New Jerusalem.
The colors of the twelve precious stones of the foundation…give the appearance of a rainbow, signifying that the city is built upon and secured by God’s faithfulness in keeping His covenant (Gen. 9:8-17).
Here are verses about renewing and transformation:
Romans 12:2, “be transformed by the renewing of the mind that you may prove what the will of God is”
2 Corinthians 3:18, “we all with unveiled face, beholding and reflecting like a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord Spirit.”
Ephesians 4:23, “be renewed in the spirit of your mind”
Titus 3:5, “according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit”
There is no clay in New Jerusalem. Therefore we all need the Spirit’s inner transformation of our being from the clay of our natural birth to the precious materials of New Jerusalem. For this we all turn our heart to the Lord (2 Cor. 3:16) and behold Him (3:18).
