Verse of the Day | Acts 1:8 with Dave Miers

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (ESV)

This is the commissioning from Jesus. 

Before he ascends back to the Father’s right hand, he says to his disciples, in particular his apostles who were witnesses of his life, of his death and his resurrection, that once they receive the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, they will be empowered to share the good news that Jesus rose from the dead.

And as you keep reading the book of Acts, you see that play out. The Spirit comes, they are witnesses in Jerusalem, a little bit further out, Judea and Samaria, and beginning to the ends of the earth.

If you’re a follower of Jesus, you have been impacted by their ministry and the ripple effects of the gospel going out in the first century. We may not be physical witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus, but because of their witness, we likewise get to point others to Jesus who is alive and gives hope to the world.

And so, lift up Jesus in your life, and in your world this week, for his glory.
