Verse of the Day Matthew 28 19 with Dave Miers

    Matthew 28:19

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (ESV)

These are the words from Jesus, at the end of Matthew’s gospel, known as the Great Commission.

And it begins with that word, “therefore”. And it’s “therefore” because of what happened in verse 18, where we learn Jesus is the one who has all authority.

Jesus is the one who has lived a perfect life, gone to the cross, been buried, been raised again. He now has all authority as the king of heaven and earth. And the king says, “Go”.

And what does the king say to do? Make disciples.

What does that mean? Well, this is the primary task of the church, of all of God’s people, and it is to get more people to be followers of Jesus. More people to see who Jesus is, why Jesus came, and to consider what does it mean to follow Jesus with your whole life.

And where is that to be done? Well, it’s to be done in all nations. Not just for one people group, but for all people groups. All people need to hear of the good news of Jesus and what he has done in his life, his death, and his resurrection.

And all of the church has the ongoing task until Christ returns (verse 20) to be part of that mission.

And so friends, if you know Jesus, what would it look like today to help others to likewise become disciples of Jesus as they also follow after him?
