Watch Those Lips of Yours
If I had to share one phrase that I have heard many times over the years, it is, “Your words have power.” Tina has repeated this countless times to all the boys, reminding them that what they say can either be goodness, kindness, and truth. Or damaging as lies and harsh words.
And, she’s right. Very right. When we speak kindly, we are transmitting kindness out into the world. We are spreading love and lifting others up. We are approaching those around us with a good heart. This is infectious. Someone having a bad day may be transformed with one kind word. Love, patience, humility, affection, and forgiveness are so powerful.
Unfortunately, just as easily as things can get turned around with positive words, they can also get torn down with negative words.
The frustrations and lack of patience that so often plague us in our daily lives can be released so quickly when our mouths open. These harmful words have been known rip apart relationships, strip a child of innocence, and dissipate opportunity.
And, to think – we have the power to control what comes out of our mouths!!
Words can bring people up. Words can tear people down.
Words can make someone feel strong. Words can make someone feel weak.
Words can be welcoming. Words can be damaging.
Words can reflect unity. Words can reflect discord.
Words can lead others to God. Words can push others away from God.
Words can show love. Words can show hate.
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Ephesians 4:29
While our actions do often speak louder than our words, we can’t dismiss the power that comes from the words we speak.
“The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.” – Matthew 12:37
So, no matter where you find yourself today, pause before you speak. Whatever comes out of your mouth when you open it is either going to be for good — or not.
The choice is yours. Make it a good one.
Until next time… ❤❤
