What happen when we pray?

What happen when we pray?

Posted on September 22, 2012 Updated on September 14, 2012

Why pray? Simple. Because it is only God who saves. This is easy for us to understand intellectually, but hard to understand in reality. We are so sure, we are so smart, we ‘‘ve been so successful in or businesses and everything else we have been about. The, all of a sudden, there is something beyond our control. We can’t fix it. We can’t save anybody. There is nothing we can do. Nothing, that is, but pray!

There is a phase in Isaiah 5 vs. 12, “I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen”. It reminds me of my answering machine at home. I love my answering machine because nobody can get through to me if I don’t want them to-especially on Sundays. On those days I do not pick up the phone. My wife, Sue, will say, “should I get it?’ I‘ll say, ‘No’. She might add, ‘It might be…’ ‘I don’t care who it is,’ I reply, ‘I don’t want to talk to them.’ So I keep my answering machine on. People can call if they want to, but I’m not going to answer.

Sometimes I can hear who is calling on the machine, but other times I turn the volume down because I don’t even want to know who is speaking. They can speak but I’ not going to listen. Unfortunately, that’s often they way I am with God. I’ve got an answering machine somewhere inside my soul. God sends me messages, but most of the time, I’ m not listening. But God is calling me to pray- pick up the line and talk. And He is calling me to tell everyone to do the same.
