What You're Here For

I needed to pick something up for my daughter from The Little Haven (a building we own). I had already forgotten to pick it up when I had driven past an hour earlier. But I thought I might also take some stuff with me that needed to be returned to The Little Haven.

Because of how scatterbrained I can be, and because I was taking some stuff inside, when I got there, I said to myself, "Remember what you're here for."

I could imagine taking the stuff inside and coming home without picking up what I went there for. I didn't want to come back again.

But that phrase felt like a sermon to me! Remember what you're here for. How easy it is to get sidetracked from why we are here on earth.

We are here to know, love, glorify and serve God. We do other things along the way that we need to do or that we enjoy doing. But let's not forget what we're here for. When we keep that in mind, we have a totally different perspective.

Once our life is over, there is no coming back. Let's not forget what we're here for.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Do You Feel Accepted or Rejected?

I went to bed, pulled the covers over my head, and had a big ole pity party. Once again, I had been rejected…come in second place…told I wasn’t quite what “they” were looking for. The scarlet letter loomed large. It wasn’t an A like Hester Prynne’s in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book I had read in high school, but a big fat R that I chose to wear when life turned ugly. Read more...
