When Insecurity Gets Your Down - Sharon Jaynes

(Beginning August 1, the content of my blog will be completely different from the Girlfriends in God devotions. So if you are not signed up for my blog at www.localhost/sjold, please do it today…and invite all your friends. We’re going to have more give-a-ways, more personal interaction, and more inspiration than ever before!)

Speaking of winners. The 3 winners of a copy of my latest book written with Gwen Smith and Mary Southerland,  Knowing God by Name, are Lisa Harness, Elizabeth Cater Childs, and Sarah Howard. Congratulations! Now on to today’s post…

I’m going to be honest with you. If there were an Olympic event for feelings of insecurity, inferiority, and inadequacy, at some point my picture would have been on the Corn Flakes cereal box as a gold medal winner.

Now, you probably think I’m going to tell you, “But then I became a Christian and all that insecurity just went away!” But that’s not completely true.

I did become a Christian when I was fourteen. That part is correct. However, I carried that insecurity into my Christian life like a ball and chain clamped around my skinny ankle.

Don’t get me wrong; I could sing “Victory in Jesus” with the best of them. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that when I left this earth and crossed over the threshold into my heavenly home, I was going to be with Jesus forever.

It was what I was supposed to do until I got there that had me stumped. I had no idea how to walk in victory in this life or what that even meant.

Did you know that you can be a bona-fide born-again Christian and still live in defeat? Yes, you can. But if you do, if I do, it’s not God’s fault. He has given us “everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3).

He has equipped us with the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)
the precious promises that never fail (2 Peter 1:4).

[tweetherder]But it’s up to us to walk in the truth of who He is and who we are in Him.[/tweetherder] It is up to us to walk in victory as “more than conquerors” in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37).

It’s not enough to know the truth. It’s not even enough to believe the truth. We must apply the truth to our lives by walking in the truth by faith. We must ACT LIKE God tells the truth.

And what about those squirrely emotions that trip us up. Here’s the deal. If you know the truth, believe the truth, and act on the truth, those fickle emotions will line up with the truth. It doesn’t work the other way around. Never has. Never will.

No child of God needs to live in bondage to feelings of inferiority, insecurity, or inadequacy. No matter what battle you face, God is your victory. No matter what enemy you meet, God is your victory. No matter what struggle you encounter, God is your victory.

[tweetherder]“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).[/tweetherder]

Turning “No I Can’t” into “Yes I Can”

I can do it. No, I can’t. Yes, I can. No, I can’t. Have you ever had that conversation with yourself? You feel like God is calling you to reach out to someone, start a new venture, teach a Bible study, write a book, share a story about your past that you’ve never shared before. But then your fear shouts at your faith to keep quiet. Read more...

Healing on the Other Side of Heartbreak

I watched my friend, Patricia, struggle through more than twenty years of a difficult marriage. Her husband left three times during the two decades—once before their three children were born, and twice after. They lived through nineteen different homes in multiple cities, revolving jobs, rumored affairs, cycles of financial plenty followed by financial deficiency. Eventually, after twenty-three years, Rodney packed his bags for the last time and left. Read more...

This is My Story. This is My Song

Steve and I were headed to the coast and stopped for our usual lunch break, Chick-fil-A, just twenty minutes from our destination. It was one last time to fill up on sweet tea. While Steve purchased our nuggets, I took our Bernedoodle, Molly, for a walk in the grassy area between Chick-fil-A and Dunkin’. Molly sniffed, Read more...

It’s Written All Over Your Face

Have you ever held a grudge? That’s a silly question. I think we all have. I remember when Nancy Davis asked the boy I had my eye on to the high school dance. Can we all say G-r-u-d-g-e with an extra grrrr? Esau, now that’s a biblical character who held a grudge…and rightly so. His brother Jacob and his momma grabbed the pen right out of God’s hand, Read more...

    How to Have Big Faith

Harry called it a dune buggy. I called it a death trap. My friend, Harry, invited me and some of my friends for a ride over beach sand dunes in his big wheel jeep. I like sand. I like rides. Sounded like fun. It was not. We buckled in and Harry revved up the engine. We did not ride over the sand dunes; Read more...
