When Insecurity Gets Your Down - Sharon Jaynes

Speaking of winners. The 3 winners of a copy of my latest book written with Gwen Smith and Mary Southerland,  Knowing God by Name, are Lisa Harness, Elizabeth Cater Childs, and Sarah Howard. Congratulations! Now on to today’s post…

I’m going to be honest with you. If there were an Olympic event for feelings of insecurity, inferiority, and inadequacy, at some point my picture would have been on the Corn Flakes cereal box as a gold medal winner.

Now, you probably think I’m going to tell you, “But then I became a Christian and all that insecurity just went away!” But that’s not completely true.

I did become a Christian when I was fourteen. That part is correct. However, I carried that insecurity into my Christian life like a ball and chain clamped around my skinny ankle.

Don’t get me wrong; I could sing “Victory in Jesus” with the best of them. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that when I left this earth and crossed over the threshold into my heavenly home, I was going to be with Jesus forever.

It was what I was supposed to do until I got there that had me stumped. I had no idea how to walk in victory in this life or what that even meant.

Did you know that you can be a bona-fide born-again Christian and still live in defeat? Yes, you can. But if you do, if I do, it’s not God’s fault. He has given us “everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3).

He has equipped us with the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)
the precious promises that never fail (2 Peter 1:4).

[tweetherder]But it’s up to us to walk in the truth of who He is and who we are in Him.[/tweetherder] It is up to us to walk in victory as “more than conquerors” in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37).

It’s not enough to know the truth. It’s not even enough to believe the truth. We must apply the truth to our lives by walking in the truth by faith. We must ACT LIKE God tells the truth.

And what about those squirrely emotions that trip us up. Here’s the deal. If you know the truth, believe the truth, and act on the truth, those fickle emotions will line up with the truth. It doesn’t work the other way around. Never has. Never will.

No child of God needs to live in bondage to feelings of inferiority, insecurity, or inadequacy. No matter what battle you face, God is your victory. No matter what enemy you meet, God is your victory. No matter what struggle you encounter, God is your victory.

[tweetherder]“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).[/tweetherder]

    When You’ve Lost Hope

Have you ever faced a tough circumstance and wondered, God, where are you? Maybe you’re in one of those situations right now. I’ve had them too. That was the situation with many of Jesus’ followers after He was crucified and buried. They had lost their hopes and dreams and didn’t know where to turn. Let’s take a look at one story. When You Feel Worn Out

I was so tired. I felt so empty. Ministering had worn me out. We’re all ministering to someone: toddlers, teens, parents, friends, co-workers, and the list goes on. On this day I was traveling to teach a group of women in another state, wondering if I had anything left to give. Have you ever felt that way? Read more...

To Speak or Not To Speak

My son was about seven years old when we took him up to the mountains of North Carolina to go snow skiing for the first time. For hours I instructed him in my best teacher voice how to stand up, ski down, and get up once he fell. After several hours, it appeared he was not getting the hang of it at all. Read more...

    When Worry Steals Your Joy

My husband, Steve, and I sat anxiously in our seats. I wondered if I was going to be able to endure the ride, especially knowing my propensity for motion sickness. But we began nonetheless. The guide strapped all passengers into the tiny boats and gave last minute instructions. Of course there were life preservers, but what good would they do in the fierce rapids that threatened to suck its prey below the surface? Read more...

Are You Lying to Yourself about Yourself?

For forty years, every weekday morning, my husband’s alarm clock went off at 5:30. He got up, showered, shaved, brushed his teeth, got dressed, and placed his jingling keys in his pocket. He cleared his throat, blew his nose, and, well, did other noisy things. When he opened and closed the door leading to the garage, the alarm in the bedroom beeped three times…loudly. Read more...
