When Tears Flood Your Bed: Prayer from Psalm 6

When life presses in with physical pain, emotional turmoil, or the weight of opposition, where do you turn? Psalm 6 invites us into the raw honesty of a prayer born from deep distress, teaching us that God welcomes our most desperate cries. In this ancient lament, we discover a path from overwhelming sorrow to confident trust that the Lord hears and responds.

LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger,
do not punish me in your wrath.
Have pity on me, LORD, for I am weak;
heal me, LORD, for my bones are racked with pain.
My spirit is in deep distress.
How long, LORD, how long?
Turn, LORD, and deliver me;
save me for the sake of your unfailing love.
For in death there is no remembrance of you;
who can praise you from the grave?
I am worn out with groaning;
all night long I flood my bed with weeping
and drench my couch with tears.
My eyes are dim with grief;
they grow weak because of all my foes.
Away from me, all you who do evil,
for the LORD has heard my weeping.
The LORD has heard my cry for mercy;
the LORD accepts my prayer.
All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed;
they will turn back in sudden disgrace.
