Where Do I Go From Here?

Bible

Have you ever been at a crossroad in your life and you see an obvious choice that’s right in front of you? You can choose to go one direction or another, knowing that at the end of the day you must choose, and whatever the choice, the destination of one will be very different than the other path.

There are those big decisions in life, but often it is a small curve—or even a bump in the road that has the possibility of changing our course and setting us up for what I would call, an “adventure”…

When my mother passed away in February of this year, I entered a new season of life. My father had died two years before, but the seven years prior to that were filled with many difficult days.

While in the midst of what felt like an eternity—-everything changed in a single moment. They were both gone and I found myself wondering what I was to do with this massive life change.

Where do I go from here?”

You don’t have to be my age to ponder the question. Many young adults wrestle with the question of purpose and meaning. Is this life merely an existence or am I to just survive—or will I thrive? Can my reason for being here be more than just finding a career and earning a paycheck? Is there much more to life than just following the “social norm” or what others expect of me?

What is “normal” anyway? If you only see normal as what is right in front of you, then you are missing the big picture… there’s a great big world out there just waiting to open your eyes to the vastness of God’s creation—and His intention for our very existence.

I began 2024 on a search. A search for perspective.

I had a strong desire to see things—myself and others, the world and whatever number of days I have left it it—from God’s perspective. The Bible calls that wisdom.

Who doesn’t want wisdom? From marriage and parenting to finances and a career, the Bible gives us insight for our daily life.

And so, when you find yourself at a crossroad like the one I was facing, what do you do? Seek Him. Seek His wisdom, His counsel, His guidance. Ask Him to show you what He wants for you. He created you and He knows your past, present and future. If you are a believer, His desire for you is that you would choose, in faith, a path that is for your good and for His glory.

And so here I am, in the country of Panama telling people about Jesus. He opened a door and I went through it. I am seeing and learning more than I ever could have if I had said, “No, that’s not for me!”, or had made excuses for why I couldn’t do it.

Here are just a few of the discoveries I have made in my years of following Jesus: He loves me. He desires what is God’s good and perfect will for me. I can trust Him to navigate my steps in such a way that it fulfills God’s path for me and brings meaning to my life.

Doesn’t it make sense to place your faith in the God who created you? He is all knowing and all powerful—so why would you want to look to the world when you can look to the One who created it!

I want to encourage you today to SEEK HIM. Look to Him and His Word for the answers to the questions you are facing. Give Him permission to step into your life and show you what His plan is for you—you will never regret choosing the path that ultimately leads to the kind of life you were created for.

    The Mall or the Manger?

Much has changed since the God of the universe decorated the night sky with the star of Bethlehem and directed the choir of angels in a chorus announcing the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. But the commercialism doesn’t have to rule in our hearts and homes. This year let’s focus on the Christ Child and remember the true meaning of the holiday season. As we turn our eyes to the Babe in the manger, we will not view Christmas as a dreaded obligation or a major retail event. It will be a time of joyous celebration, honoring the One Who came to give us eternal life and worshipping our Heavenly Father.
