Worry Worry — Michelle Blan

How many times have you heard that you shouldn’t worry and that God takes care of everything? How many times have you been told that worrying about anything is really just a more complex way of saying you are lacking faith?

Now that I’ve said that, where are all my worriers? Come on, now, raise your hands. 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️ I know, I know – who wants to raise their hand and admit their faith may have cracks, right?

Well, I will admit it. I worry. I worry about everything. I worry about things I can control and things I can’t. And, I worry about things I can control and don’t. I just worry. My dad was a worrier, too. I like to tell people that it is an inherited trait that I got from him.

Who knows if worrying is really hereditary or if it is a learned behavior. Worry is worry and strong enough faith can blast through it. One day I hope to get there – I admire those who seem to have it altogether. You know, those who throw out phrases like this and actually live by them: Why worry? God’s got it. Lift your cares to him and move on about your day. No sense in worrying about something we can’t do anything about, right?

Sigh. One day.

In the meantime, I want to share something with you. Over the last couple of weeks, builders have cleared the land behind our home and have been very rapidly building a new house. Unfortunately, all the birds, wild bunnies, and other creatures lost their home in the process. And yes, you guessed it – I quietly worried about it. But, life goes on, it happens everywhere, and the animals adapt, right? So, I was able to let that one go – phew!

Anyways, last week, some new birds were moving into one of the oak trees in our backyard. I’d like to think they are displaced birds from the other side of the fence, but I don’t think we will ever know for sure. 🦜🐦

Little by little for at least two days, this bird worked at building a new home. And I watched in amazement. The bird was so graceful as it would fly out of the nest, disappear for only a few moments, then return with some sort of tiny twig or other debris. A moment of wrestling around in the tree branches and that new nest had another piece to keep it steady and make it more snug and cozy.

Over and over the bird did this. So quickly. Now, I have known since I was a kid that birds gather items to make their nests. I have just never seen it happen. For some reason – and maybe its me just being simple – I felt like the birds went on a search for all the right pieces to create nests. But, if I didn’t know any better, I would assume this bird was just flying to a stash and flying right back.

Here’s what I do know, though – the bird needed a nest and God provided all the right pieces to do so. Now we have a family happily living in our oak tree.

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

Matthew 6:26-27 (NLT)

And wouldn’t you know, Jesus tells us that God cares for birds, providing them with what they need – and he provides for us, too.

See, there really is no need to worry, is there? Don’t fret – I am telling myself this as much as I am telling you. Something tells me that I am going to remember these birds for a long time.

Until next time… ❤❤
