What does it mean to become a born again christian?

Memorise: “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (Jn 4:24 )Read: Matthew 13:5-6

born againBlessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3). The beatitudes present powerful foundational truths every Heaven-bound believer must not toy with. To be ‘poor’ suggests a lack or deficiency in something. The one who is impoverished in health is sick. The financially impoverished is one who needs money to make ends meet. The fellow who is poor in health will be in pursuit of healing. The one who is financially poor will most likely be found in a prosperity -preaching church because he needs money. A man who is poor in spirit will be in pursuit of spiritual things. In the above passage, our Lord Jesus Christ blessed those who are seeking spiritual things. It is what you seek you are likely to find, especially when you seek it correctly. If you seek spiritual things you will most likely find it.Why did Jesus say those seeking spiritual things are blessed? It is because God Himself is a spirit. John 4:24 says, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth”. Also, Hebrews 12:9 says God is the Father of spirits. Jesus said the Kingdom of God belongs to seekers of spiritual things. This means that the Kingdom of God is the Kingdom of spirits. In John 18:36, Jesus said His Kingdom is not of this world. To enter His Kingdom, you must be born of the Spirit (Jn 3:5-6 ).

Today, the term ‘Born Again’ has almost lost its meaning. Just anything can now be born again. We now have born again gangsters, prostitutes, rebels and even politicians. An evil genius once called himself a born again democrat. Whether the term is misapplied or not, God’s Word is clear on the subject.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says to be born again, you must make Jesus Christ your dwelling place and become a brand new creature. Your old sinful life-style must go and a life-style of holiness must replace it. Without this, there is no true born again experience. John 3:5-6 says if you are still seeking the things of the flesh, you are yet in the flesh.

Those in the flesh will be preoccupied with how they dress – what they will wear and how to make dressy impressions. But those in the spirit want to please God. If you are remembered by your dressing, you have lost God’s glory. When God’s glory is upon you, nobody will notice what you wear because your face will radiate His glory. Are you born again? How are you known?

Ask God to create a hunger in you for spiritual things. Ask that you be known by the character of Christ.
