We all get it wrong sometimes.

Good day beautiful people,

I hope that this post meets you well? Recently the Holy Spirit has been nudging me to discuss about love/relationships… So please stay tuned for the next couple of weeks so that you don’t miss out on future posts, and do subscribe to our mailing list. I must apologise because I haven’t been so active in sharing my journey as a christian single lady, but I will try to share that specific area of my life with you all more frequently. It’s my deepest desire to share my experience with others (especially my fellow female humans) so that individuals feel encouraged and learn to trust in God. Also I’d like others to learn from my mistakes so that they don’t have to fall into the pitfalls I fell into.

So in today’s post I want to remind every reader that at some point in your life you will misjudge someone (you probably already have). The mind is so powerful and one can have prejudice towards a person or peoples without even realising. Which is why it is extremely important not to allow your emotions/feelings to govern every single decision you make as one’s feelings don’t always reflect reality. And as Christians we ought to rely on the Holy Spirit to be our constant guide! We’re not to lean on our own understanding, instead we should depend on God’s wisdom. Reality is sometimes we do get things wrong, which is why we need God’s guidance when making decisions.

James 1:5 ~ If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

Proverbs 3:5-6 ~ “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Sooo the story I’m going to share with you today is about one of my interactions with a male human. Now I thought this male human was a God send for my life (romantically). Why you may ask??? Firstly when we met we hit it off.. The conversation was flowing which for me is a very very good sign, and secondly he asked for my details on my fast day! So yup those are the two main reasons and as I write these few lines I remember the post that I writ regarding opportunities… We mustn’t forget that not all opportunities come from God. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that this male human was fine and we happened to come from the same country so we had some similarities (I’d like to clarify that someone having to be from the same country as me is not a must when it comes to courtship).

Long story short things didn’t go anywhere. Tumbleweed……..Literally things came to an end quicker than Dorothy’s heels click. I expressed my love for God and how important my relationship with The Lord was, and he even asked me to send over the link to my blog which I did. And things pretty much fizzled out, replies were delayed and eventually all communication seized. In the midst of all this I was reminded of the time when Samuel the prophet went to anoint the future king of Israel who would take King Saul’s place.

[For those wondering how I felt at the time, I can assure you that I wasn’t heartbroken, neither was a disappointed but more thankful to God for making it very clear to me that it wasn’t a path that I should venture on. It was more of an ‘Ahhh man’ situation. The lesson I learnt from our brief encounter was not to share things prematurely with people you’re getting to know (sending over my blog link via dm was kinda a big deal to me at the time). And obviously the importance of not leaning on your own wisdom or going by what you see].

1 Samuel 16:1-12 ~ “Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.” But Samuel asked, “How can I do that? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” “Take a heifer with you,” the Lord replied, “and say that you have come to make a sacrifice to the Lord. Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you which of his sons to anoint for me.” So Samuel did as the Lord instructed. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town came trembling to meet him. “What’s wrong?” they asked. “Do you come in peace?” “Yes,” Samuel replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Purify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then Samuel performed the purification rite for Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice, too. When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “This is not the one the Lord has chosen.” Next Jesse summoned Shimea, but Samuel said, “Neither is this the one the Lord has chosen.” In the same way all seven of Jesse’s sons were presented to Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.” Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” “Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.” So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.”

Samuel saw Jesses first son and believed he had to be the future king of Israel. But boy was he wrong. And sometimes we can behave in exactly the same way. ‘This guy/lady HAS to be the one, I just feel it and from the looks of things this person is amazing’. Yet we can be totally wrong in our evaluation of others! And don’t feel too bad if this has happened to you, the truth is most of us misjudge others and make assumptions without giving time to get to KNOW a person.

Let’s go back to the example of Samuel anointing a king to rule over the people of Israel. Samuel was a man who God spoke to and through, at a very tender age. God revealed future events to him, God’s very words came from his lips yet he didn’t immediately recognise/identify who God wanted to have as king. He looked at physical appearance.

Sometimes we judge people based off the one encounter we had with them. ‘Oh he was so gentle or ‘Oh she/he really takes care of their body’. Or ‘Oh I met this person on my fast day they’re definitely an answer to prayer, they must be the one’. But we shouldn’t be too alarmed if like Samuel we end up going through a few ‘potentials’ before we get to the person or place God has in store for us. Whether it be concerning choosing the right employee for a job or even buying a new home. The most important thing is that we should always rely on God. Always involve Him in your decision making processes. And don’t forget that there is no love like the love of God.

I hope you continue to stay safe. Much love and God bless.

Love from

Christian Lady After God’s Own Heart 💜
