Self-discipline is good till you get burdened by your own rules. When we learn the word of God over time, as God reveals it to us, we are excited to live by it. It is a joy to understand what God is saying in His word.
We set up our day to spend quality time with God. We begin following a routine and enjoy it for a while. Life happens, and routines get disrupted.
Is all hell breaking loose little by little? Do you find yourself struggling to get back to your routine?
Let’s take, for example, the routine of waking up early to spend one-on-one time with Jesus. You wake up the first five days, and on the sixth, you miss waking up early because you were tired from the previous days work or a lack of sleep. How is your mood there on?
Do you remain frustrated and let the missed opportunities discourage you from getting back into God’s track? Or do you pick up from where you left off and march on to victory?
Be led by the Spirit of God, and not your feelings into God’s track
God is gracious and knows our limitations. The best antidote to every anxiety or depression, or suicidal thought is filling in the Holy Spirit.
We are no more bound by the spirits of fear and doubt, but through adoption have become sons. Only the Holy Spirit can remind us who we are and help us overcome our weaknesses. The best part? The Spirit of God intercedes for us when we do not know what to pray for during times of need.
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “Abba! Father!”. The Spirit Himself testifies and confirms together with our spirit [assuring us] that we [believers] are children of God. In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.
Getting into prayer, meditating on His word, and thanking Jesus for all His goodness will bring the fire of God down upon you. Broken in His presence, He will lift your spirit to be joyful again to pursue Jesus fervently.
Everytime you get up, encourage someone else too.
We are closer to the day of Christ than we think. Maranatha, praise God, and amen.
