TODAY’S BLESSING: GENESIS 49:22-26

“Joseph is a fruitful vine,
a fruitful vine near a spring,
whose branches climb over a wall.
With bitterness archers attacked him;
they shot at him with hostility.
But his bow remained steady,
his strong arms stayed limber,
because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob,
because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,
because of your father’s God, who helps you,
because of the Almighty, who blesses you
with blessings of the skies above,
blessings of the deep springs below,
blessings of the breast and womb.
Your father’s blessings are greater
than the blessings of the ancient mountains,
than the bounty of the age-old hills.
Let all these rest on the head of Joseph,
on the brow of the prince among his brothers.

~Genesis 49:22-26, New International Version

In this blessing, Father Jacob speaks frankly to his son Joseph, the one he calls, ” the prince among brothers”. Notice he never chastises the brothers about what they did. Instead, he intentionally celebrates Joseph the Dreamer’s capacity to overcome the many betrayals of his life emphasizing how he did it.

God.

He’s The God of (your name here)

Joseph no longer had to seek the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He found God for himself through the grace of struggle:

The Mighty One of Jacob

The Shepherd

The Rock of Israel

His Father’s God

The Almighty

These attributes of God were his confidant in the pit, his strength in the well, his refuge in Potiphar’s house, his advocate in prison, and his intercessor with the king.

Joseph discovered God in ways his great-grandfather, grandfather, father, or even his brothers never would causing him to a relationship with the God of All unlike any other.

God, bless us to know you for ourselves!

Lord, we call you Master right now because of the masterful way you crafted Joseph’s life so he would draw nearer to you. Bless us to also know you for ourselves. Help us appreciate the blessings of generations past while elevating our own pain to be your unique platform. Shape our testimonies to reveal more of you, and we will be reminded of the absolute favor and unmerited grace bestowed upon us by Heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
