God Reveals Himself through Jesus Christ - Charlaine Martin
Read: 1 Corinthians 19:15-20 NLT
Have you ever sat in church for a wedding, waiting for the bride to walk down the aisle? Her groom stands nervously, waiting to see her, exchange their vows, and ultimately take her home as his wife. Suddenly the music changes, everyone stands, and there she is! Everyone stares in awe at how beautiful she is. After all, she’s that next-door girl in a t-shirt, tattered jeans, and tennis shoes turned gorgeous princess for that day, for her groom. They will soon be one.
Much like the groom anticipate what the bride looks like for her wedding day and what it will be life will be like with her, we often wonder what God is like. What does He look like? What will it be like to see Him face to face, living with Him in eternity? In our passage, we learn that Jesus is the visible image of our invisible God. In John 14:8-9 NIV, notice how Jesus answers Thomas’ question,
Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Instead, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
If we want to see God in this life, we must look to Jesus. One day we will see God face to face in eternity living with Him forever (Revelation 22:3-4).
As we discussed in an earlier post, God revealed Himself through His creation and His Word. In today’s passage, we discover that Jesus was present and involved at the beginning of creation. He also holds creation together. Our world has not fallen apart because of Christ, the Living Word (John 1:1-5).
Jesus reigns over all things in the Heavenly realm and on earth. He is indeed Lord of All. As troubled as our world is right now, we can trust that Jesus, our Lord, is in control of everything. Not only this, but He paid the price for our sins, reconciling us to God the Father and redeeming creation. Therefore, when we look to Jesus, we look to God because Jesus is God.
Are you looking for God? Looking for immense Love? You can find Him in Jesus Christ. You can know God intimately through His Son. Connect with a church that teaches the Bible’s truth. He is there among imperfect people who love and serve Him. There is so much comfort and hope in our faith in Jesus Christ. We can trust His love for us.
