4 Reasons to Choose a New Counselor - Melanie Redd
All counselors are not the same, in fact, far from it.
If you are not getting the results you had hoped for from your counselor, it could be time for a change.
In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the reasons why you should consider choosing a new counselor.
The first reason to choose a new counselor… If you don’t feel like you are making any progress with your current counselor.
This is the number one reason why you should consider changing your counselor.
If you do not feel like you are making progress after your sessions, don’t assume that counseling is not for you.
More than likely, it is this particular counselor that is not right for you.
When looking for a counselor in your local area, do plenty of research beforehand, and read reviews that have been left by other patients.
The second reason to choose a new counselor… If they don’t return your calls or are unavailable.
There is nothing more frustrating than feeling like you can’t get in touch with your therapist.
Of course, there will be times when they are going to be unable to answer the phone, as they may be with other clients.
However, they should return all of your calls in a timely fashion.
And, if something is urgent, you should be able to text them about it and know that they will get back to you as soon as they can.

Another reason why you should consider changing counselors is if there has been a breakdown in your relationship.
Counselors should have high emotional intelligence. They should be able to adapt their communication style based on who they are communicating with.
It’s easy for them to take a free online Enneagram test so that they can understand their personality and other personalities, enabling them to communicate with their clients more effectively.
If you feel like you and your counselor aren’t communicating well, you should look for someone who makes you feel more comfortable.
After all, it is vital that you are able to open up.
