Because He Lives
Jesus is ALIVE! He conquered the grave and rose from the dead, never to die again. Jesus destroyed Satan’s greatest weapon - the fear of death. Hallelujah! Praise God!
What does Jesus’ victory over death mean for us?
As I prayed about writing this devotion, the Holy Spirit put on my heart the old Gaither hymn titled Because He Lives. If you have an old hymnal, I recommend you look up the lyrics. If you do not have a hymnal available, try an internet search of the lyrics. I believe you will be abundantly blessed.
BECAUSE HE LIVES:
We can face tomorrow: We can face the future with courage. We have hope beyond death. Real hope. A trustful expectation, a confidence that God will do for us in the future based on the promises He has done in the past.
All fear is gone: Because Jesus overcame death, we no longer need to fear it. As Christ-followers, when we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we too have victory over the grave. (I Corinthians 15:51-57)
We have a future: John teaches in chapter 3, and again in chapter 5, that “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life.” The word has is present tense, which means eternal life, for the Christ follower, starts when we yield our lives to Jesus. Our physical bodies will expire, but our spirit lives eternally with God. Thank You Jesus!
Because Jesus overcame death and the grave, He has given each one of us the greatest opportunity. We too can overcome eternal death. When we experience a personal relationship with God in Jesus Christ we are given eternal life. A life filled with hope, and joy, and peace, and patience, and power, and wisdom, and discernment, and a forever-home with Him in Heaven.
Because Jesus lives, we live! Our eternal life starts now. Do not delay. Walk in bold confidence and freedom BECAUSE HE LIVES!
Questions for Reflection:
- How is the living Jesus being revealed in your life?
- What does your future hold?
- In what areas of your life do you need more courage?
