Best gifts for children as Christians

Having kids is one of the most beautiful gifts that God could give to His people. Becoming a parent brings undefined joy and satisfaction. It teaches you what true love means and how God loves us so much.

We all want to give them the best life and everything we have not had since childhood.

But, as Christians, what could be the best gifts we could give our child or children?

What are the most valuable gifts that matter most for shaping their character?

The best gifts for children, as Christians

When we understood God's love and amazing grace, we realized that material possessions are significant for a child’s well-being but not the most essential part.

As we delve into His words, the Holy Spirit will reveal what matters most and what we must give to our children.

Let us look at some of our kids' best gifts.

Our faith

The greatest gift we could ever give to our children is our faith. We need to teach them to believe that God is supreme above everything. We now live in a corrupted generation with so many false teachings, so we need to establish their faith in Jesus Christ.

Our faith in God will be the foundation of their person when they grow up. As one saying says, “If you will not teach the children about believing in God, the world will teach them not to.”

Our love and devotion to God

Children learn more from what they see than from what they hear. They will likely imitate you if they know how you love and devote your life to God. Another intangible gift we could give our kids is to show them how to love the Lord and dedicate their lives to Him.

Moreover, loving and devoting their lives to God brings abundance and security for your children. Thus, we should try to show and tell them how to love God.

God’s commands

Deuteronomy 6:7 says, “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home, when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.”

Our home is the first place of learning for our kids. We should also teach them God’s commands as they learn the alphabet and numbers. So, when they leave your house, they are ready to walk in righteousness, even if you are not with them.

Additionally, obedience results in blessings, so the Lord will bless and favor your children when you teach them the importance of obeying God's commands.

Our time

Many parents struggle with spending time with their kids because they also have to work. However, time is one of the most essential presents we could give them. Our kids are not always young; eventually, they will grow and get busy with their own lives.

However, the key to nurturing their character and helping them get closer to God is our time. So, no matter how hectic our schedule is, we always have to prioritize our children.

They do not remember all the toys you gave them, but most of the memories you create with them will be kept in their hearts.

Happy home

A happy home does not always mean being in a complete family. In some cases, parents would need to raise their kids alone. But that does not mean they could not give their children a happy home.

Living in a happy home means living in a house full of love, acceptance, and forgiveness. One of the best gifts we could give our children is a peaceful space for growth. It is essential for their development.

How can we give a happy home? It will always start and end with Jesus Christ. When we put God as the center of our home, it will be a house filled with genuine joy no matter the situation or struggle we face.

Prayer

As parents, things are still out of our control, no matter how we prevent a situation. Yet, when we pray continuously, we surrender everything out of our hands to God. By praying and petitioning that God would bless and protect our kids, we are allowing God to take over.

Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

Our prayer is our gift of protection to our kids against the works of satan. He is like a devouring lion ready to steal, kill, and destroy everyone who is for God—our works as Christian parents to pray and intercede for our children to be conquerors in Christ Jesus.

Material things to give to our children

Let us now go to tangible things we could give our kids. These are some of the best gifts and tools to help them as they grow up.

Bible

God’s words are in the Bible. It would serve as their guide. So many Bibles could be particular for girls, boys, and even teenagers.

Besides, you can also personalize them with the names of your children written on them. It would be their most valuable possession, leading them to abundance and protecting them from danger even if you are not around.

Moreover, it is one of the best ways to teach who God is and His commands by studying it with the family.

Story books with values

For you not to sound so religious, You can give your younger children story books with values. Make sure to read them together so you can also discuss the learnings they could get from those stories.

You are not just giving them a book but making memories simultaneously.

Educational toys

Another gift you could give them is toys that could help them learn, such as Lego, board games, etc. It would help the children develop their character and problem-solving skills.

Also, it would help them to enhance their creativity by thinking outside the box.

Pieces of jewelry with Bible verses engraved

For parents with girls and teenage girls, you could give them jewelry like a bracelet, ring, or necklace, then engrave Bible verses. You could make promises to God so your child would never forget them, especially when they do not feel well.

The greatest gift of all

Salvation through Jesus Christ is the greatest gift you could pass on to your children. The salvation of their soul is far more significant than anything in this world.

Furthermore, letting them know that Jesus Christ, our Lord, came down here to save them from sins and give them light would help them know they are precious and valued.

With all the distractions in this generation, our job as parents is to secure our kids’ salvation because Satan is at work to steal them from the love of God.

More so, letting them know about Jesus Christ would help them overcome trials and temptations.

They may not tell us everything, but at least we know, and we have peace of mind that they can handle their difficulties because we introduce and let them know about our Savior, Jesus Christ.

More importantly, we may not give all the riches in the world to our kids, but letting them know about Jesus is more than enough. It is something eternal.
