Memorise: “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 Jn 2:2)Read: 1 John 2:1-2

advocateThe Lord Jesus Christ is a lover of names. Each time He introduces Himself or He is introduced by an angel or a member of the Godhead, He may be called by a new name or title. One of such names is Good Tidings of Great Joy.The name of a powerful man is of great significance both to the owner and anyone who comes under its influence. In today’s reading, in a general epistle to the body of believers, Jesus is introduced as the Advocate with the Father. Why is He our advocate? According to 1 John 1:7-9, it is to ensure that His atoning blood is still effective in cleansing us from sin even after we are saved. But for this provision, all believers who sinned after their salvation experience would have been eternally doomed.

Here, we are told that provided believers do not deliberately engage in sin, but continue to walk in the light of the Word of God they have received, fellowship with other believers and immediately confess sin, the blood will avail for them.

“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25). According to Hebrews 7:24-25, another reason He is called our Advocate is so that He can intercede for us. Do you know that just as you need man to intercede for you, so also you need members of the Godhead to intercede on your behalf . The Advocate and the Holy Spirit intercede for us in Heaven.

For instance, in Luke 22:31, when Satan had concluded his plan to turn Peter – the most zealous of the 12 into a reprobate, it took the intercession of the Advocate to spoil that plan.

In addition, Jesus is our Advocate so that He can represent us before every court whether in Heaven or earth. In those courts, you need a lawyer to defend you, or else once the accuser of the brethren brings a case against you, and there is no one to defend you, the case will be decided against you.

One way the Advocate represents us is by getting His blood to speak on our behalf (Heb 12:24). Every case raised against you in witches’ covens and kingdom of darkness shall be struck out by the blood of Jesus. Also, He is our advocate so as to help us package our prayer requests for expedited answers. If Jesus is your advocate, you will never lose any case on earth or in Heaven. Employ His services today!

Unlike earthly lawyers who are limited to earthly courts, the Advocate can represent you anywhere in and outside our planet where there is a case against you.
