[Bible Play] Heave-Ho! Noah’s Ark Lands in Our Living Room
Hi everyone! Today, I’m excited to share a 'Noah’s Ark Play' activity that lets kids experience a Bible story with their whole bodies. Using everyday household items, we can boost both creativity and faith in a fun, hands-on way. Shall we get started?
What You’ll Need
＊ A few small chairs from around the house
＊ Various stuffed animals
＊ Comfy pillows and cushions
＊ One large blanket

1. Heave-ho! Building the ship with chairs
First, line up the chairs in the middle of the living room. Say something like, "Wow, these chairs are going to be a giant boat!" as you shape the ark with your little ones. Adding a small flag at the front makes it look like a real Noah’s Ark!
2. Finding the lost animal friends!
Once the ark is ready, it’s time to welcome the passengers. Have the kids go on a scavenger hunt to find stuffed animals hidden around the house (under the bed, behind the bookshelf, etc.). As they find them, place them on the chairs one by one, saying, "Hop on, Mr. Giraffe! This way, Mr. Lion!"
3. Reinforcing the ark with pillows
We need to make sure the ark is sturdy enough for a storm! Stack soft pillows and cushions around the chairs like protective walls. This part is great for helping kids understand spatial awareness and giving them a sense of accomplishment.
4. Shake it up! Mommy’s homemade flood simulation
Now for the highlight! Mom appears with a big blanket. Call out, "It’s starting to rain! Look at the waves!" while gently waving the blanket over the kids sitting on the chairs. Inside that cozy space under the blanket, the kids will feel the thrill of being on a real boat.
What your child learns from this play
Bible Storytelling: By physically acting out the story of Noah’s Ark, kids naturally remember the message and the sequence of events.
● Sparking Imagination: When a chair becomes a boat and a blanket becomes the ocean, magic happens! It's so sweet to see them fully immersed in their roles, shouting, "I’m Captain Noah!"
● Role-Playing with Friends: While seating their favorite dolls on the ark and saying, "Don't worry, I'll keep you safe!", kids develop a nurturing heart and social skills.
● Gross Motor Skills: Moving chairs and stacking heavy pillows is a great workout that helps with physical coordination.
⚠️ Safety First!
● Secure the Chairs: To prevent chairs from tipping, place them on a play mat or against a wall.
● Blanket Caution: When waving the blanket, make sure not to cover the child's face too tightly or for too long so they don't get startled.
● Clear the Path: Before the "animal hunt" begins, clear away any sharp objects or clutter to prevent trips and falls.
While tucked inside the ark you built together, whisper to them: "We are safe; God is watching over us." More than any expensive toy, a mother’s warm love is the greatest lesson of all. ❤️
