[Bible Play] Red Sea Crossing Play

red sea

Hi everyone! Today, I’m excited to share a Red Sea Crossing Play activity that lets kids experience one of the most powerful miracles in the Bible with their whole bodies. With just simple blankets and a bit of imagination, you can teach them that God opens a path even when there seems to be no way. Shall we part the sea?

What You’ll Need

* Two large blue blankets (regular blankets work too!)

* Soft pillows or cushions (to represent waves)

* Various dolls or toys (sea animals to place in the ocean)

* A sturdy stick or cardboard tube (Moses’ staff)

* Step by Step Guide

1. "Oh no!" Creating the deep blue sea

First, spread two blankets side by side on the living room floor so they touch in the middle. Place pillows along the outer edges to represent rolling waves. If you like, you can also place your children’s favorite sea creature toys on top of the blankets.

2. Immersion: "What should we do?"

Help your children recognize the "problem" in the story by saying, "Look! A giant sea is right in front of us. We are blocked!" Then, through the Bible story, explain how Moses and the people were able to cross the blocked sea. If you want, parents can also play the role of the army chasing the Israelites.

3. Miracle moment: Parting the blankets! (Highlight)

Now, give your child the staff or have them raise their hands high. Encourage them to shout, "God will make a way!" Linking their voice to the action helps reinforce the message that faith leads to action. The moment your child raises the staff, parents should slowly pull the two blankets to each side to reveal the floor in the middle. "Look! The path is opening!" If possible, gently shake the bunched up blankets on the sides to create a wall of water effect while the kids cheer and run through the dry ground.

4. Safe at last: The Great Crossing

The dolls and the whole family cross the path together. Keep the energy high as you pass through the water walls: "We are safe! We are walking on dry land!" Kids love the thrill of the sea opening, so feel free to repeat this several times! Once everyone has crossed safely, gently bring the blankets back together. Tell them, "God kept us safe and protected us from all the dangers behind us."

What your child learns from this play

● Faith over fear: They physically experience the pattern of Problem ➔ Faith ➔ Solution, building spiritual resilience.

● Immersion and Imagination: By imagining a simple blanket turning into a sea and walls of water, a child's creative thinking is maximized.

● Gross Motor Skills: Walking through the narrow path and moving according to the story provides great physical activity.

⚠️ Safety First!

● Check the floor: Ensure the dry land (the bare floor between blankets) is not slippery. Use a play mat if necessary.

● Mind the face: Be careful not to suddenly toss the blankets over the child’s head to avoid startling them.

● Clear the path: Make sure there are no small toys or sharp objects in the crossing zone that could cause a trip or fall.

After the play, give your child a big hug and say: "Even when you can't see a path ahead, God is always with us and makes a way." More than the miracle itself, the feeling of being protected within God’s love will be the most beautiful lesson for your child.❤️
