Why does God allow plagues to happen?
1. Plagues could be punishment from God for disobedient to His laws and commandments. God destroyed the earth with flood because of the wickedness of man and God promised to plague Israel if the turned against him. (Leviticus 26:25). He Sent Nebuchadnezzar to plague Jerusalem with destruction. Jeremiah 27:8 “It will be, that the nation or the kingdom which will not serve him, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and which will not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine and with pestilence,” declares the LORD, “until I have destroyed it by his hand.

2. Plagues could be an instrument for Gods deliverance of His children from bondage. God sent ten plagues against the Egyptians to force them to release Israelites from bondage. These are plague of blood, the plague of frogs, the plague of lice (gnats), the plague of flies, the plague of livestock, the plague of boils, the plague of hail, the plague of locusts, the plague of darkness, and the death of the firstborn (Exodus 7:14–12:36).

3. God uses plagues to Kill.

Psalm 135:8-9-He smote the firstborn of Egypt, Both of man and beast. He sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, Upon Pharaoh and all his servants.

4. Plagues could be as a result of sin. In the Bible God send a three day plague to kill 70,000 men after King David sinned by numbering the people of Israel (2 Samuel 24:10–17).

5. Plagues could be as a result of sexual sin.
Genesis 12:17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.

6. God uses plagues to execute judgement
Leviticus 26:14-16-‘But if you do not obey Me and do not carry out all these commandments, if, instead, you reject My statutes, and if your soul abhors My ordinances so as not to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant, I, in turn, will do this to you: I will appoint over you a sudden terror, consumption and fever that will waste away the eyes and cause the soul to pine away; also, you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it up.

7. God used plagues to destroy. He used the plague of flood to wipe out the whole earth. Genesis 7:4 “For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.”

8. Plagues are a sign of end times. Luke 21:11-and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven

Revelation 15:1-Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels who had seven plagues, which are the last, because in them the wrath of God is finished.

Numbers 16:46-48-Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer and put in it fire from the altar, and lay incense on it; then bring it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone forth from the LORD, the plague has begun!” Then Aaron took it as Moses had spoken, and ran into the midst of the assembly, for behold, the plague had begun among the people. So he put on the incense and made atonement for the people. He took his stand between the dead and the living, so that the plague was checked.

11. Plagues do not affect the people of God. God protects His children from plagues
Exodus 8:22-23
“But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are living, so that no swarms of flies will be there, in order that you may know that I, the LORD, am in the midst of the land. “I will put a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will occur.”‘”
