Bible Study on every verse with Heart + Done in it
This is a Biblical study over Verbal and mental and heart in salvation.
Thank you to my Brother in Christ, Ed Carson (youtube handle @edcarson3113 on youtube) for inspiring me on this one!
This is a Bible study of every verse in the Bible containing the two
words "heart" and "done."
There are more Bible studies to come, and they won't (probably) be in the format
of doing every verse.
The study is to show that the Romans 10 chain of believing and confession as the
two requirements for salvation is shown through the Bible with others believing
something and then, with their mouth, verbally saying it.
And that the internal speaking is always signified.
There is a heresy that the calling upon the name of the Lord occurs in the heart
and not the mouth.
The idea is that there is a mouth in your heart and Paul meant Romans 10:9:
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in
thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Their belief is “The heart confesses, and the mouth is actually the heart and
not the mouth.
The proof text is 2 Timothy 2:22:
"Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with
them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart."
Whether 2 Timothy 2:22 means mental assent or doesn't will be shown in this
study.
I will show every verse whether it relates or not.
Genesis 8:21 "And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his
heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the
imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite
any more every thing living, as I have done."
The text definitively states the difference between internal and external.
Genesis 8:21 is Verb + "in" + Heart.
Romans 10:9 is Verb + "with" + Mouth.
Romans 10:9:
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in
thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Believe in thine heart.
It reads "the LORD said in his heart."
Genesis 8:21 is describing God speaking IN HIS HEART, which the mental assent
position supposes occurs in 10:9–10. And it reads IN, not THY. The IN clearly
separates between the internal voice and the external mouth.
Genesis 20:5 "Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself
said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands
have I done this."
Not related.
Genesis 24:45 "And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah
came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well,
and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee."
The Holy Spirit once more separates between the external and internal.
Notice, "IN" = Internal.
2 Timothy 2:22:
"Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with
them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart."
OUT.
Such as in Romans 10:9, when the heart is mentioned, it is always IN.
Romans 10:9: "believe in thine heart"
Genesis 42:28 "And he said unto his brethren, My money is restored; and, lo, it
is even in my sack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, saying
one to another, What is this that God hath done unto us?"
Unrelated.
Exodus 14:5 "And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the
heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they
said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?"
Unrelated.
1 Samuel 12:20 "And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this
wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with
all your heart;"
Unrelated.
1 Samuel 12:24 "Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart:
for consider how great things he hath done for you."
Unrelated.
2 Samuel 7:21 "For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou
done all these great things, to make thy servant know them."
Matthew 12:34
2 Samuel 24:10 "And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the
people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done:
and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I
have done very foolishly."
His heart and mouth are linked.
1 Kings 3:12 "Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee
a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee,
neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee."
Not pertinent.
1 Kings 8:66 "On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the
king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness
that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people."
Not pertinent.
1 Kings 15:3 "And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done
before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of
David his father."
Not pertinent.
2 Kings 10:30 "And the LORD said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in
executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab
according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation
shall sit on the throne of Israel."
Notice, the Lord doesn't just mentally believe Jehu will do it. His heart and
his mouth is linked. He tells Jehu what his heart wants.
2 Kings 20:3 "I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee
in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy
sight. And Hezekiah wept sore."
Not pertinent.
1 Chronicles 17:19 "O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own
heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great
things."
Look, God wants something in his heart, then he DOES IT.
2 Chronicles 16:9 "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole
earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect
toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou
shalt have wars."
Not pertinent.
2 Chronicles 32:25 "But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit
done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him,
and upon Judah and Jerusalem."
Not pertinent.
2 Chronicles 32:31 "Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of
Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land,
God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart."
Not pertinent.
Nehemiah 6:8 "Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as
thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart."
Look, the heart is once more linked to the mouth.
The person wants something and then verbally says it.
Esther 6:6 "So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done
unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart,
To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?"
IN HIS HEART.
When a person in the Bible talks in their heart, God always uses the term IN.
Internal.
If Romans 10:9 was internal, it would be IN and not THY and not WITH.
Psalms 14:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt,
they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
When a person speaks in their heart, it is IN, not WITH or THY.
Psalms 53:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they,
and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good."
Even more, a heart speaking is IN, not OUT or WITH or THY.
Ecclesiastes 1:13 "And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom
concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God
given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith."
Not pertinent.
Ecclesiastes 8:9 "All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work
that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another
to his own hurt."
Not pertinent.
Ecclesiastes 8:16 "When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the
business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor
night seeth sleep with his eyes:)"
Not pertinent.
Ecclesiastes 9:3 "This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun,
that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full
of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go
to the dead."
Not pertinent.
Isaiah 38:3 "And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked
before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good
in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore."
Not pertinent.
Jeremiah 16:12 "And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk
every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken
unto me:"
The heart wants something, then it physically (with thy mouth) performs instead
of just believing.
Jeremiah 30:24 "The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have
done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter
days ye shall consider it.”
The actions of the heart are linked to being physically done.
Lamentations 1:22 "Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them,
as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and
my heart is faint."
Not pertinent.
You may reply, "What about commune? Psalms 4:4, Psalms 77:6, Ecclesiastes 1:16?"
Romans 10:9 never says commune.
