- Joshua was called by God to succeed Moses- Joshua 1 vs 2,’…Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.’
- One of the 12 spies sent by Moses to explore Canaan Land– Number 13
- One of the two spies that believed God to possess the land of Canaan- Num 14 vs 8,’… If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
- One of the only two people that entered the promise land out of thousands of men that left Egypt- Numbers 14 vs 28,’…Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.’
- God was with him- Num 3 vs 7,’…And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle.’
- God magnified him- Num 3 vs 7
- Captain of the host of God appeared to him- Joshua 5 vs 14,’…And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?
- He led the Israelites to cross river Jordan- Joshua 3 vs 13,’…And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.’
- He led the fall of Jericho- Joshua 6
- He cursed Jericho to desolation- Joshua 6 vs 26,’…And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the Lord, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.’
- He was famous- Joshua 6 vs 27,’…So the Lord was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.’
- He commanded the sun and moon to stand still until he defeated all his enemies- Joshua 10 vs 12,’…Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
- He supervised the division of promised land to the tribes of Israel- Joshua 14
- The Lord gave Israel rest from their entire enemies roundabout under his leadership- Joshua 23 vs 1,’…And it came to pass a long time after that the Lord had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and stricken in age.’
- He led Israel to renew the covenant with God- Joshua 24
- He died at 110- Joshua 24 vs 29,’… And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.’
