Lessons from the temptation of Jesus

  1. It is interesting that it was the devil that led Jesus to the wilderness to be tempted. Verse 1. At times, God allows us to pass through some trials and makes a way for our salvation if we refuse to compromise with the devil.
  • May God not lead you to be tempted, and if He chooses to lead you to temptation, may He give you the grace and strength to overcome every temptation in Jesus’ name.
  1. Jesus fasted for forty days and night, yet the devil visited him. Verse 2. At times, we ask why we are still being oppressed at night in spite of the fact that we have just concluded a powerful prayer session or fasting session.
  2. Know the word. Jesus was able to overcome the devil because He had a scriptural response for every deceit of the devil. Many Christians fall into the hands of false prophets because they are not familiar with the word of God and follow anything and everything the man of God or church doctrine says, even if it is not biblical. A good example is a Catholic practice of praying through the Virgin Mary
  3. You need to feed on the word of God as you feed on food and drinks – 4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
  4. The devil took him to the Holy Spirit- verse 5. Does this mean the devil has access to everywhere, even the holiest places? We need to cast out the devil from our business premises, homes, offices, dwellings, churches, etc all the time.
  5. Many Christians have been deceived and compromised their faith by making covenants with Satan in return for status, wealth, and positions. Money is always what the devil uses to ensnare people.
  • God shall give you the strength to overcome the lust of money in Jesus’ name.
  • The greed for riches shall not cause you to lose your salvation in Jesus’ name
  1. Jesus rebuked the devil. Someone needs to tell off the devil today in Jesus’ name. Get thee hence Satan from my marriage, life, business, children, family in Jesus’ name- Verse 10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
  2. The Devil left Jesus when Jesus could not be compromised – Verse 11. The devil shall fail to compromise you to sin. The devil shall leave you alone in Jesus’ name
  3. Angels of God ministered to Jesus when he overcame the devil – verse 11. The Angels of God shall become your ministers as you live in righteousness in Jesus’ name.
  4. Run from danger. Act with wisdom. Don’t act foolishly. Your decisions and lifestyles will determine your fate. Jesus did not deliver himself to the enemy. Zeal without wisdom is foolishness. Verse 12: Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
  5. Jesus began to preach when he overcame the devil- Verse 17. Your deliverance is for service to God. God delivered you to serve Him. What are you doing to serve God?
  6. Follow me- verse 19. Someone reading this message needs to decide to follow Jesus today.
  7. Jesus healed all manner of sickness and all manner of disease- Verse 23. Take every sickness to Jesus, even that termed incurable by orthodox medicine, He will surely heal you.
