Come Forward to the Throne of Grace, Now and in New Jerusalem

Grace is Jesus Christ as our spiritual supply to live and serve Him both now and in New Jerusalem. Hebrews 4:16 urges us to “come forward with boldness to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace for timely help.”

New JerusalemOur coming forward with boldness is not based on our accomplishments nor on our condition. It is based solely on what Jesus Christ has accomplished and made available to us. He and His redemption are our boldness. When we come forward we first receive mercy and then, with some time at the throne, we find grace.

Hebrews 4 is about our present Christian life. Verse 12 assures us that the living word of God is “piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Many ideas and opinions in us need this dividing and discerning. We should accept it with confession of every failure and ask the Lord to grace us to live Him.

The throne of grace in Hebrews 4 ties the supply of mercy and grace to New Jerusalem. In New Jerusalem our soul and spirit will have been divided and our soul fully transformed, and there will be no more fallen or natural thoughts and intentions. But we will still need, and gladly receive, the sternal supply of grace from the throne.
