Commentary on Matthew 16

Commentary on Matthew 16

Posted on August 19, 2016 Updated on September 1, 2016

  1. Matthew 16 contains two key instructions for everyone aspiring to be a Christian and/or make heaven.
  2. The first instruction states the price every Christian has to pay. It stresses the necessity of sacrificial living, self-denial, and readiness to do the work of a missionary.

(Matthew 16 vs. 24):

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

This   means:

  1. Every Christian must be willing to forsake the desires of the world or flesh to become a true disciple.
  2. Every Christian must do the work of an evangelist spreading the gospel anywhere, to qualify as a true believer.

(Matthew 16 vs. 24):

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

  1. Jesus also announced that salvation is priceless, and primary. It is worthless attaining any status or position, accumulating any amount of fortune or wealth, acquiring the highest educational degree, or acquiring any form of physical assets, if at the end, your soul is not saved for heaven.

Prayer

  • I cut vanities from my life in Jesus name
  • My soul shall end up in heaven in Jesus name.
