Computer Problems

It is remarkable how dependent we have become on technology in the twenty-first century. For the past few days, computer problems have prevented me from posting to my blog, reminding me of how integral these tools have become to my work.

I have been maintaining a schedule of three posts per week, something retirement has made possible by giving me time to read, research, and write. Recently, I have also been organizing and downsizing my files. This project has revealed the extent of what I have accumulated during fifty years of preaching and thirty-three years of teaching.

Over the years, I have read hundreds of books and thousands of journal articles. I have accumulated an extensive library of PDF resources that continue to inform my writing. The sheer volume of material—Bible studies, sermons, lectures, class notes, and various other resources—is more than I could likely publish in my remaining years. Yet I am determined to share as much as possible with a wider audience.

In the coming weeks and months, I will be developing these materials into blog posts. Having taught classes on every book of the Old Testament during my teaching career, I am particularly eager to transform those class notes into accessible content. While time-consuming, this process will be rewarding as I revisit decades of study and preparation.

I want to express my deep gratitude to my many students. Your encouragement, participation in class discussions, and probing questions challenged me to deepen my knowledge and sharpen my teaching. I owe you an enormous debt of gratitude.

Now that my computer is repaired, I will resume posting on Monday.

Do You Feel Accepted or Rejected?

I went to bed, pulled the covers over my head, and had a big ole pity party. Once again, I had been rejected…come in second place…told I wasn’t quite what “they” were looking for. The scarlet letter loomed large. It wasn’t an A like Hester Prynne’s in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book I had read in high school, but a big fat R that I chose to wear when life turned ugly. Read more...

        Sleeping and Waiting

Sleep is crucial to our health. It’s our body’s time to restore itself and make sure we’re ready for the day ahead! Waiting, in a way, is like the “sleep” portion of our faith. While we wait, God works. And imagine all the incredible work He’s doing!
