Don't Lose Focus 👀 — Michelle Blan
Listen up. These next few days/weeks/months are going to be a bit rough. There is going to be a lot of anxiety surrounding the election and its results. It may be your own anxiety or you may be the recipient of someone else’s. Whatever you do, don’t lose heart. And, don’t lose your focus.
There is a lot of fear and uncertainty that comes with this election. Since we can only control our own emotions and our own reactions, we worry about what is to come from others. That’s why so many cities are boarding up their downtown areas and people are stocking up on necessary goods. We just don’t know what will happen or what the backlash will be. There are so many emotions from so many people tied up in our country’s politics – and running on high. Sadly, we are in a global spotlight right now.
Here’s where the anxiety kicks in. Will it just last a few days? Will there be rioting? Will there be protests? Will there be a peaceful transfer of power? Then, what is going to happen in the future? What will the winner of the election bring to the table? Will we, as a country progress? Will we regress? Is our democracy going to crumble? There are so many unknowns in the equation that is causing anxiety to soar.
Don’t lose your focus.
We already have a king. And, he has already written the story of our future. He knows the outcome of the election and what the future holds for our country. Don’t allow yourself to get swept away in the fears, the worries, and the anxieties of your mind – and of those around you. Focus on God.
If you find things getting a bit too tough to handle, try one of these:
Talk to God. Talk to him like you are talking to your best friend. If anybody knows you and your behavior the best, it is God. He is that ever-present constant that has been there with you through it all. When you are ready to scream or cry because things are getting too crazy to handle, call on him.
Practice free-writing. This is a simple writing exercise that can leave you feeling a whole lot lighter. Grab a notebook, a journal, your laptop, or a piece of scratch paper – and a pen or pencil. Set a timer for 5 to 10 minutes and just start writing. Don’t worry about your spelling, your handwriting, or even your punctuation. Just write without thinking.
This practice frees your mind as it lets go of everything you are carrying. It is a practice I have personally used quite a bit. It always leaves me feeling so much better afterward. Besides, you may be surprised about what comes out — things you may not have even realized you were holding on to!
Get outdoors. There is something to be said about getting outside. The fresh air, the rustle of the leaves, the outdoor smells, the feel of the warm sun on your skin, ahh… It feels good to be in nature. You don’t have to go on a camping trip deep in the woods, either. Simply walking out your front door and going for a walk around the block is a perfect way to start. And, hey, while you are walking, why not talk to your buddy, God? Outdoors is a great place to reach him.
We need to stay connected with God at all times – though especially when we feel like we are losing grip on the world around us. As we head into November 3rd, remember someone has already won the election. So, everything else? It’s just menial… let it go.
Until next time… ❤❤
