Evangelism by Holy Spirit and fire

Memorise: “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63)

Read: Jeremiah 20:7-11

Pastor E. Adeboye

“Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak anymore in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay” (Jeremiah 20:9).

One symbol through which God manifests His presence is fire. Any believer who embarks on the Christian race without fire is taking a great risk. John 6:63 says until the Holy Spirit indwells you through God’s Words, you will not be quickened.

Dead woods never give glory to God. Believers who are cold, lukewarm, indifferent, and compromising are dead woods that never glorify God. It takes a living, fiery Christian to put his enemies to flight, please God and accomplish destiny. If you are on fire for God, it shows spiritually and physically.

Spiritually, the enemies will see it and run from you. They would be afraid to come near so that they are not consumed. Physically, it will manifest as the glory of God on your face. Besides, it will keep pushing you on the path of righteousness.

Have you ever felt bored or discouraged to the point of resolving not to preach or to take part in certain activities? Jeremiah felt the same. He resolved never to even mention God’s name again. But the Word of God in his heart as fire burned to the point that he could no longer sustain his anti-God posture.

If you are no longer doing what you used to do for God, and you feel comfortable, it is an evidence of absence of God’s fire. If you do not feel any prick when you contact a sinner and let such an individual go, it shows you do not have fire anymore.

When divine fire is in you, it makes your life sweet. Leviticus 1:17 talks of a burnt sacrifice. There is a difference between a sacrifice without fire and one with fire. The former has no smell, but the latter produces an aroma that makes those around to notice it. It is when the fire of God comes on your life on God’s altar that it produces a sweet smell. Several believers either stink or are odorless.

As long as you do not allow God’s fire to burn negative traits and habits hindering the release of your sweet aroma, nobody will know you. Even your sacrifice will not be noticed. Ask God to send His fire upon you to burn every dross, lukewarmness, prayerlessness, and secret sins from your life so that your life can release a sweet smelling aroma that Heaven cannot ignore.

Ask God to create new doors for the gospel to penetrate the middle East and raise modern -day Elijahs in those countries.
