Memorise: “Let all things be done decently and in order” (1 Cor 14:40)

Read: 1 Cor 14:36-40

“Let all things be done decently and in order” (1 Cor 14:40). God’s Kingdom is very well organized. There are hierarchies of powers in the Kingdom. There are also principles, procedures, rules and laws guiding the operation of this Kingdom. Unlike the satanic kingdom that employs force, threats and intimidation as tools of control, God’s Kingdom operates by the Spirit of Christ and love.

The truth is, whenever you break the ranks – you refuse to follow the right order, trouble will surely follow. You are expected to follow the order so as to keep away from trouble. For instance on the issue of marriage, after you have truly sought God’s face regarding His will for your life, and have received and subjected it to thorough scrutiny and have received confirmation on who the fellow is, you have just scaled through the first stage.

Some believers are at a loss on what to do next. Some go ahead to make their intention known to the sister. That amounts to jumping the gun. The second stage is to meet your pastor and tell him of God’s leading, sharing your testimony with him. Thereafter, you will leave him to pray about it and to invite the sister if she is in the same local church.

If the feedback from the sister is positive, then he can meet with both of you and give you the go ahead to start the courtship. But if the feedback from the sister is not favorable, he will call you and ask you to go and pray. If God is truly in that relationship, He will make it to work out one way or another. Your pastor is there to help you and to prevent you from going astray. It is wisdom to follow this order.

Some brothers avoid their pastors and go directly to ask the sister’s hand in marriage, but warn her never to tell their pastor. This is mixing your foundation with falsehood! Another possibility after you are sure of your partner, is to ask God to notify your partner that both of you are meant for each other. It becomes easier if God has dealt with both sides on the matter like He guided Mary and Joseph on the issue of the virgin birth of Jesus (Luke 1:26-38; Matt 1:18-25).

After you have got a go-ahead from your pastor, then courtship starts. You will be required to uphold holiness and keep your bed undefiled as you meet frequently to visit relations and plan your wedding. If you want to have the best of God’s Kingdom, identify its principles and live by them.

Pray that all intending couples and singles of marriageable age, be led of God and remain in His will.
