For the Love of Laundry

Seriously.  I don’t hate laundry.

It’s not that it is a difficult job–for me, at least.

An automatic washer and dryer, though dated, does the work for me and all I really have to do is fold or hang them when they’re dry.

So why does it seem like a chore?

Truth is, any mundane task can be faced with a frown; or by my own choosing, I can decide to take the seemingly ordinary and turn into something quite the opposite.

I like to think that joy is just around the corner, if I will only look for it.

Seeing things in their true light can spark creativity if you will seize the moment and choose to focus on what is good and right and true.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9 NIV

Good: I live in a First World Country where I have electricity powered machines that can make a painstaking task so much easier.  (One that would require a lot more time and energy!)

True: Laundry seems to be a never-ending battle that I can’t win.

Right: While I still have to hang or fold the massive pile, this abundance not only represents the material blessings, but it also reminds me of the loved ones I am blessed to serve.

Ultimate Truth: Here it is: God has blessed us with this pile! (And before you try to get that last word of “yeah, but…” remember that we are probably guilty of making that load larger by our desire to fill our closets with the latest styles and fads.)

SO,  I will lovingly wash the mounting pile while wearing a garment of thanksgiving…

…and I might just be belting out a few tunes with my music buddy, 99.1 Joy FM.

OH, and while you’re at it, it’s also a great time to pray!  Pray for the person whose socks you are folding or shirt you are hanging–

and pray for those that are less fortunate than you are.

Through foster care, this precious baby now has a loving home, a brother and sister that adore her and the hope of a future that is safe and secure.  I love this picture, because it is the opposite of the first picture we took of her.  They were watching out the door with great anticipation for her to arrive, and today she is the one watching and waiting with excitement for her siblings to arrive home from school…

JOY is just around the corner!  Look for it…

“I greatly rejoice in the Lord, I exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness, as a groom wears a turban and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth produces its growth, and as a garden enables what is sown to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.”  Isaiah 61:10-11
