If you had just witnessed the transfiguration of Jesus, what would you be thinking and talking about? It’s interesting how Peter, James, and John react to having witnessed the transfiguration. God gave them an incredible privilege through this experience. But instead of responding with gratitude, or learning the very important lesson that God wanted them to learn, they started arguing about theology! They were still too full of the religion of the Pharisees. The Jewish religious teachers taught that Elijah had to come back to earth before the Messiah. So, in the thinking of the disciples, how could Jesus be the Messiah if he had come before Elijah, whom they just saw.
Peter rebuked Jesus about saying that he was going to Jerusalem where he would be killed. And Jesus in turn rebuked Peter for standing in his way with his worldly thinking. Now Jesus wanted to emphasise to the Twelve how different the spiritual reality is from the way that the world thinks. What Jesus said here were not the things that would make anyone popular. Jesus said these things after Peter had tried to block him from going to the Cross.
The soldiers heard Him yell, “It is finished.” And then, He gave up the ghost. The light of the world was out. Darkness covered the land. Heavens looked away,
Yesterday, we experienced the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus pleaded with the God to remove his cup of wrath. Christ submitted to the will of the Father.Today, Good Friday, is when Christ was crucified. He experienced the very thing he pleaded for God to remove not even 24 hours earlier. The cross is where Christ experienced the wrath of an all-powerful God and fully atoned for our sins. He took it all. He drank every last drop. Nothing was left. One aspect of the Crucifixion of Christ that ha
Pastor Greg Laurie addresses common questions relating to Good Friday... Why is Good Friday called good? Why did Jesus have to die? And more.
Stories of injustice trouble me. The accounts of innocent people being victimized are bad enough, but when no one steps in on behalf of those victims, the story takes a far more tragic turn. My st…
The cross is our defining moment—where everything that ever mattered was always leading, where everything that matters today is still being measured.
Picture yourself enslaved to sin. Devoid of unconditional love. Hopeless with no assurance of an eternity with our Savior.
Holy Week is a public contest of power between Jesus Christ and the alternatives in Jerusalem. Who is the leader of the people of God—Jesus the Rabbi or the chief priests? Where is the presence of God among his people—Jesus the Incarnate Son or Herod’s temple? Who rules the world and has power over death—the crucified Christ or the Roman governor?Consequently, most days in Holy Week include a public showdown. Palm Sunday features the parade entrance of Jesus, a conquering king on a humble donkey
Have you considered that the more we dismiss our sin, the more we minimize God’s love and Jesus’ sacrifice at Calvary?
Today’s story, written by the disciple John, takes place just after Jesus has risen from the dead.

The bloody Savior who called out for something to drink took your thirst upon Himself and offers true rest in return.
The church is no retail outlet. But we can learn from one such outlet and return to our “core business.” The cross. Let’s make the main thing the main thing!
The sacred space where vows are repeated, prayers are prayed, and loved ones are remembered chronicles the life events of its inhabitants. The interior of this sanctuary has made a few changes; chairs instead of pews, updates, and upgrades. But the one thing that has stayed the same is the cross in the front.
