Getting It Off Your Chest
Excerpt from my book
The Shut Up Book
A 40 day Biblical Approach to Controlling Your Mouth
Titus 2:1
But as for you, speak things which are fitting for sound doctrine….
Repeat after me “Fitting for sound doctrine”, now say it again. Every time you want to come back with a curt remark and a zinger of a putdown repeat those words. Will what you are saying increase God’s kingdom? Will the words you are about to say be a reflection of God’s principles?
Yes, I understand they deserve it; somebody needs to say something and put them in their place. But, is what you’re about to say going to bring about peace or just add to the fire. Is getting it off your chest, telling it like it is really going to help?
Know this; God has the last word in all that is happening to us here on earth.
Know this; it’s our job, our responsibility to reflect the holiness of our God here on earth. Know this; our Almighty God is first a God of love and grace. It is these two things that we are to offer in our dealings with the world.
All that we do and say should be in fitting with those principles and doctrines.
- Who is the most annoying person you know?
- Why do they annoy you?
- What would you like to say to them?
- How can you help that person become less annoying? Yelling at them doesn’t count. Try grace first. If that doesn’t work love them into being nice.
