God Always Does What He Says – Part 2
In Part 1 we began to look into God’s perfect character and His prefect faithfulness. Because of God’s perfect character, He always does what He says or promises.
In this final part of this series we will continue to look into God’s perfect character and perfect faithfulness. And we will look into why you can have total confidence in God and in His word and promises.
God’s Promises Are His Guarantees
Numbers 23:19 is a great verse. In it God reveals His perfect faithfulness. “God is not a man, that he should lie; nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act ? Does he promise and not fulfill ?”
God reveals His perfect character in various ways in His word. There are verses that reveal His character, such as these:
Isaiah 14:24 – “The Lord Almighty has sworn: Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.”
Isaiah 46:11 – “What I have said that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do.”
These verses are telling you that God always does what He promises. And that whatever God says He will do – it is guaranteed to happen. And whatever He has promised you – it is guaranteed, because of God’s perfect character. God’s promises are His guarantees. What an awesome God we serve.
God’s Call to Join Him In His Kingdom Work And Mission
During a mission trip to Sao Paulo Brazil in July 2005 we saw 201 people come to Christ in 1 week. This was our first experience in missions and our first mission trip. We were amazed at what God did during that trip. God called us to come back and join Him permanently in His work as missionaries to Brazil on that trip.
Because God, by His grace, had taught us in many ways that He always will do what he says, we took the leap of faith and moved to Brazil to join Him. His plan for us was to sell my business and serve as independent self funded missionaries. We have had no support from people or churches since 2005. This is certainly not the conventional way to serve God in His kingdom work and mission.
But it was clearly what God was telling us to do. Even the pastor at our church at the time in 2005 was telling us not to do it this way. His advice was to go through the Southern Baptist IMB – International Mission Board. They would pay our way to the mission field and offer full support. But we were certain God was leading us to go on our own. We had no idea why God was leading us the way He was, but it was clear what He wanted us to do.
God’s Promises For Provision And Protection
After God called us to serve as missionaries in Brazil, God began to make promises to us. God made promises about how He would provide everything we needed. Basically we have needed to live off of what God provided through the sale of my business and other means for the rest of our lives. It has been 15 years since He promised, and we have always had what we needed. Despite many difficulties along the way, God has kept His promises. These difficulties include the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009. And we lost a lot of money because of the difference in the money exchange when God called us to move back to the US early in 2014. We lost 20% of our funds due to the difference in the exchange rate from when we arrived in Brazil to when we left. But God has always kept His promise, and at times He has provided in some very unusual ways.
God also made promises to us that He would always protect us. In our mission work in Brazil, many times we worked in very poor and unsafe areas. We also worked in many “favelas” (slums), which are very dangerous places. God promised that He would always protect us, and He has. Because God always does what He says.
God’s Promises About The Great Things He Would Do If We Obey
After God called us to serve Him in Brazil as missionaries, He made promises about how He would do great things. God spoke to me about how He was going to make that week of our mission trip to Sao Paulo in 2005 seem small, compared to what He was going to do. We saw 201 people accept Christ and commit their lived to Him that week in 2005, and we were amazed. God was saying that He was going to do much greater things in the future, and that week would seem small.
He has not disappointed. We have been seeing and experiencing what God was promising. That He would do “immeasurably more” than all that we ask and imagine.
God Always Does What He Says And Promises
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever !” – Ephesians 3:20-21
God has been fulfilling His promises to us about what He was going to do, if we obeyed and did what He told us to. After telling us that He would make that mission trip week seem small, God began to tell us something else. In my daily prayer and fellowship time with Christ, He told me that He was going to “save well over 100,000 people”. This was one of those times when I wondered if I had heard God correctly. What I heard seemed unbelievable But He kept speaking this to me over time.
God is turning the hundreds that came to Christ that mission trip week in 2005 into tens of thousands that are coming to Christ. To date we have seen close to 150,000 people in 28 countries repent, put their faith in Christ, and commit their lives to Him. Also, many have been taught and trained to follow Christ and to fearlessly share Him with others.
God Always Does What He Promises – For His Glory and His Name Sake
God will always do what He promises – for His glory and for His name sake. We did not do the great things that we have had the privilege to see. God did them, just as He promised He would. We have simply been the servants or instruments He used. We give God all of the glory, honor, and praise for the great things He has done. And for God’s perfect character and faithfulness. We serve and follow an awesome God.
John 11:40 “Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”
John 15:8 “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.”
Hebrews 1:1-3 “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.”
1 Peter 4:11 “Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
